What a bunch of TWATS!

"No, we can't allow lane splitting or shoulder riding, that would startle the average driver and cause accidents"

but...

It's ok to allow a ~23,000 LB EFFING BUS to blow by you at 15+ MPH over the traffic speed, on the shoulder.

Yep, you're right.......That's Messed Up!

Did that have to go through all the chain links and loop holes to get passed in Oly?

Actually, I have been thinking about this recently. Ya know, the increase in traffic and people in the PNW or here in Puget Sound are transplants from California and foreign countries that have splitting and/or congested traffic where scooters, bikes, motos weave through traffic.

So it really should be no surprise at all.

Last weekend I was stuck in some horrid traffic north-bound through Tacoma. I was behind a lady with Cali plates. Every time we stopped she moved over towards the shoulder as to say "Go around me." I never did since people were getting restless and changing lanes erratically, but in traffic like that people are just waiting for us to ride the line.

I think I walked my bike a 1/4 mile that day.

funny in all the years ive split illegally (but safely) ive never had any one freak out and be scared (tho my bike is really quiet) and swerve and/or cause and accident. most ive had is a few people thing im cheating them somehow and try to block me.

Really surprised that lane splitting has not become
legal in Washifornia, but then recreational pot use
is not legal in california. go figure, i guess Oregon
is the only thing keeping them from becoming 1
state.

The goal of the transportation department is to make traffic so terrible that you can only get around using public mass transit.

That's been said by multiple politicos in Olympia, Seattle and the tri-county area(Snohomish, King, Pierce).

They don't want bikes to lane split as it would give more reasons for people to use personal vehicles, not mass transit.

At 3:00pm, which is part of rush hour these days, a guy on some variant of Harley Sportster wearing a T-shirt was blowing by everybody on the shoulder between the Marquam bridge and the 84 ramp from I-5 North. Was tempted to follow suit, because it was hot and unlike him I was all ATGATT. Is that common now? I work remotely for a couple of out of state clients, so I'm in a position to avoid the freeways at rush hour these days so I'm not sure if this is something a lot of people are doing in Portland now.

it's still illegal. and I've seen that same rider too. and i spoke with a few people at the dealership and they do the same too. its hot, bike over heats, more threats to riders while stuck in traffic so they do what they do. but it's still illegal.

Same. I don't do it much anymore, but the ONLY problem I've ever had with it was when an angry woman in her Jeep swerved to block/hit me. Luckily I slowed enough and ran my front tire into her tire so there were no ill effects (other than rage). Besides that, it has been smooth sailing if you don't count the couple of random honks
