Rainy days

If all I rode on were perfectly clean roads with only rain hitting it that would not be bad. We have that around here? No. All the wet grime gets blown on to a hot surface and embeds in. Iíve refurbed lots of bikes in the last few years and the best one as far as cosmetics was the barn find, never rained on 82 Seca 750 that I did this last summer. Came out looking factory fresh. Itís no fun to ride in rain and then have to spend an hour or two cleaning up after. So I was just getting feedback to see how other riders felt.

I will state here that I HATE cleaning my bikes, but it is a necessary evil if you want to ride year round in Washington if you want them to look semi nice. It is worse if you live by the coast because then you get corrosion along with the schmootz from the roads. I have experienced more of that this year and am STUNNED, yes, STUNNED at how fast stuff corrodes there.

my friend I will gladly pay you 2 million American dollars if my friend the prince can just place 30 million American dollars in your bank account for a short while. we just need your account number so we can swiftly make a deposit of 15 million American dollars the first week and 5 million American dollars every month after until the sum of 30 million American dollars is reached. we will give you 2 million American dollars for your expenses with no taxes by the American government. we are sorry we cannot comply with your 15 million American dollar request at this time, but after successful completion of the first transaction there maybe opportunities available.

the ball is in your court.

I will ride in the rain more now after doing a track day at the Ridge on Sunday. It was a very wet day but learned a lot on how the bike will handle in the wet. It actually works better than I thought. Also got a couple somewhat dry sessions in too.

Years ago when I took the Advanced Rider's Course, they said you had 80% of your traction in the rain. I find some benefits when I ride in the rain.

First, cars stay away. It's like they just know you will fall right in front of them, and they don't want to feel that thump and squishy feeling when they run over you.

Second, you stand out. You're unusual. 97% of the riders are in cars. So everyone notices you.

Third, any other rider you see out there is probably very proficient. I can't tell you how many times I've been riding out on the road and had someone break every rule of the road to get right on my tail. If I wanted a group ride, I'd have invited them. Since I didn't...drop back about 4 seconds and ride your own ride. Likewise, I've had riders treat me like I'm a pylon on their personal race course. You won't find either one on the road. The first is too scared to take their bike out. The second won't ride like that because it means their genes won't be passed along.

Warrant for my arrest? I’m a bad ass biker. Tell the cops to go ahead and try. The bastards will never take me alive.Go ahead I double dog DARE you. Since I never received the amount you claim there would be nothing to seize anyway.

i don't water wash my bikes.

and its not the water that effs up your ride.

its what the water carries with it and deposits into bearings and moving parts (chain, cables) and electrical thingies.

that gray/black scrunge that you just can't get off.......

I hear you, Sentinel, but in my experience, it isn't an issue except cosmetically. The grease in bearings keeps out the water, just as it does on a car. That gray/black scrunge gets onto everything from car wheels, to doors, to fairings...even to my formerly hi-vis riding jacket.

So like I did on Sunday afternoon, I took the pads out of my jacket and pants, and put it all in the washing machine. Once dry, I sprayed it with some waterproofing spray from Fred Meyer. If you're ancient like me, you get a 10% discount on the first Tuesday of every month so I stock up on it all.

It's ready to go now. Today is cloudy. Tomorrow the rain sets in again. It doesn't matter. If I go anywhere in the next few days, it'll be by bike. Even if it is a commute to the grocery store, it is by bike.

i think most of that gray shit is brake dust (how freaking toxic must THAT shit be?!?). the remaining part is tire rubber and carbon from exhaust, diesel particulate.

that diesel shit is BAD.

anyone know for sure what it is?
