Oldman Pass: Watchout for Wildland Fire Fighters

There is a 1,000 acre Wildfire that is currently burning 12 miles West of Trout Lake. The Gifford Pinchot National Forest has closed the area to the East of Wind River Rd (Indian Heaven Wilderness), but as of this morning the road itself is still open.

Bear Creek Fire:

The Bear Creek Fire is burning in steep terrain 3 miles northeast of Carson, Washington. The fire is estimated to be 20 to 25 acres in size and is burning in the Bear Creek Watershed which serves the community of Carson. The fire was first reported at 5 pm on September 4th. Engines and personnel from the Mount Adams Ranger District and the Columbia Gorge Scenic Area are being assisted by Washington Department of Natural Resources engines and personnel. On Tuesday, suppression efforts benefited from a Type 2 helicopter which dropped water to check the spread of the fire. Crews made good progress with line construction and are cautiously optimistic that progress will continue in the days ahead. Significant work remains due to steep terrain and the potential for continued fire spread as rolling material spreads fire downhill. The values at risk and importance of the Bear Creek Watershed make this the top priority for Mount Adams Ranger District personnel. As additional resources become available they will be assigned as needed. EAST CRATER AND BEAR CREEK FIRE INFORMATION: (360) 358-5329

Skamania County Sheriff's Office

The Bear Creek Fire, located approximately 8 miles North of Carson, is on USFS lands and under USFS fire jurisdiction. It is currently approximately 20 acres in size burning downhill slowly on an eastern facing slope with several DNR and FS personnel on site. Skamania County Sheriffs deputies and Carson Fire District #1 have gone house to house to give notice of the fire in the area to residents living along Bear Creek Rd and Borden Rd.
