Question I need dining recommendations

I'm looking for some dinner recommendations for around Vancouver. I typically like small quaint places where I can have a conversation without shouting. Whatcha got?

I like going to Planet Thai (Salmon Creek) for the stir-fry cashew beef (sweet and tasty). It's nice, a small place. I would think it would depend upon the crowd. About the best oriental food I've had in the area. I haven't been to too many oriental food places, but this is pretty good stuff.

planetthai-new

Beaches by the Columbia River across Hwy 14 from Fred Meyer Grand Central) is bigger but the Sesame Pork? appetizer w/ hot mustard is good by itself. YUM!!! Can get loud (crowd) but that shi* is good!! I usually just get a salad and then the appetizer and it is all good. I would suggest a separate appetizer for each person, so you can munch that shi* up!

Then on the cheap, there's Original Joe's just across the bridge (Hayden Beach). BENTO! (rice and topping). Also, some gambling machines. 30% of the time the machines pay for my meal. WINNER! WINNER! Chicken (bento) dinner! Now my luck will probably go south! I like the teriyaki chicken bento.

Awesome! Thanks. A place I've been meaning to try is the Jerusalem cafe downtown. Anyone tried A Touch of Athens?

Billy's Blues bar in Hazel Dell. Great food and usually great music. Open for breakfast also.

Judy says to try the "chicken on fire" at the Jerusalem Cafe. She's been trying to drag me down there for awhile.

Jerusalem café downtown is awesome... I love that place; definitely rough around the edges, but the brothers that run it are genuinely nice and their food is delicious and cheap... I used to go there for lunch when I worked downtown. I got a falafel sandwich and a salad usually, or sometimes their kebabs.

I've also eaten at a touch of Athens many times... very romantic, small restaurant. On weekends you usually have to make a reservation because he only has room for about 30 people at a time. The food is excellent, but not cheap. During the summer, try to snag a table on the porch outside. Order the grape leaves wrapping minced lamb or pork and a glass of Macedonian wine. It's an orgasm in your mouth!

Both places meet your criteria of small, quaint and relatively quiet. It sure beats going to Applebees or some stupid other chain restaurant...

Yep, I love that place! Since Kevin isn't real adventurous about mideast, Indian or other foreign foods (besides Americanized "Chinese") I'll go there with my other Kevin....my best friend since 1980. His wife and him eat there at least 1-2x a week.

I really like the appetizers included with each meal. You can just about fill up on those, and take part of your dinner home, but the food's so good you end up eating it all. And yes, it's fairly quiet and quaint, both.

Best place in Vancouver for quality food at an affordable price IMO.
