Summer Ride to the Wetside

In what's turning into an annual tradition for me, I'm looking ahead at a 3-day ride I'm planning this summer. Currently, the tentative dates are July 15-17, but that's subject to change between now and then.

Let me know if you have any route suggestions, recommended stops, etc. I'd also potentially be game for some company if anyone wanted to come along.

Your Saturday ride to Neah Bay is one of my favorite rides. It does get alittle chilly running next to the coast line. Have fun and ride safe

Don't miss Stevens Canyon Rd!

And if you ever travel east to west on Hwy 2, this is a fun detour. (It's harder to access going west to east)

At the Tye river is a bridge plenty wide enough for motorcycles that allows you to continue West back onto Hwy2. Just before you get back on 2 is a nice photo op.

The Chumstick Hwy is another good side route.

And be careful on the Old Blewitt Pass Rd. Lots of potholes and heaves, but a fun road otherwise.

Those both look fun! Sunday should be a short day. I might be able to backtrack if needed to hit them both!

Oh yeah, i've been up there a few times. It's quite rough in spots. but the views and serenity of the area make it worth the slow down IMO. Plus, being on a GS makes roads like that pretty fun.

Thanks for the tips!

A few other options if you wanted to avoid more slabbing on Day 1.

Alternatives to HWY 12 and I5

If you're set up for Forest Service roads, these are two of the most scenic routes in Washington..

Obstruction Pt Rd, From Hurricane Ridge to Obstruction Pt
Deer Park Rd From Sequim to Blue Mtn.
Both are well maintained gravel roads (maybe 32 miles of gravel to do both, round trip)

And while you're on the peninsula, stop by Trollhaven.

Stay on the road easement, as the Bandy Farms properties are "private property", but you can get a good look from the road.
Google "trollhaven" for location.

That looks like a sweet ride! Is it possible to get from obstruction point to deer park via trails? it looks like there's a walking-only portion between the two?

This go around I will likely have a couple folks not set up for gravel riding with me, so I'm not sure if i'll have a chance to get to those trails. if not this year, then for sure next summer!

Yes, you can hike between the two on trails, but no bikes allowed..both routes need to be ridden as short out and back roads.
