Return to Kamiah 2019 -- Motel Rates

Update 1/30/2019: Enough riders have indicated an interest to attend in spite of the increase in room rates that this ride is an official "GO" for Friday May 3 to Sunday May 5. Please post comments in the other Kamiah thread announcing the ride.

I just talked to the new manager of the Clearwater 12 motel and am more than a little disappointed with the "group" rates the new owners are willing to give us this year. Our rates have always gone up a little each year but were usually very reasonable since our early spring visits was a big win for the motel, they usually were able to sell out for 1-2 nights rather than having a almost empty motel.

Last year the cost was $59.40 for a room with one bed and $70.30 for a room with 2 beds. This year the cost for the same rooms are $70.19 and 79.26 (both years are total costs including taxes). I think this is the first time the cost has gone up more than $2. They claim they are giving us a 15% discount but think almost anyone with red blood could get the same. Its certainly not a group rate.

I'm sure the reaction is going to be split with some not minding the extra cost and others deciding to do something else that weekend but I think its safe to predict that the participation, which had already has been falling off, is going to be less than it was last year.

So, should we (1) ship Kamiah entirely this year and see what happens next year, or (2) go ahead have it on the weekend of May 3-5 knowing that it probably will have fewer riders this year. Option 3 would be be go somewhere else entirely but someone besides myself will have to organize that event.

My personal preference is Option 1 but I dont want to cancel the trip if there are others that really would like to go. Please post your preferences on this thread by February 10.

Thanks for the feedback, but the dates are not early this year, that is the same weekend (the weekend before Motherís Day weekend) we have used for the past 5 years.

Always looking forward to this 3-day weekend to kick-off another season of riding.
Thanks Steve.

It sounds as if the room rates are under consideration by the new mgmt. Booked nonetheless

Booking a room now at their current inflated rates is NOT a good negotiating tactic!

I'm in again. Always a good time. We aren't alone in rising rates - I was there last fall and noticed the rates were higher, might have been $85 - 90 for two.

When split between two, the new rate (2 bed $79 room) is only one micro-brew difference in cost ($39 vs. $35) at the usual Hub Bar and Grill. But ... difference amounts to two glasses of wine for Rod's usual high quality wine. ... So thinking we should count Rod's wishes twice to compensate!

Thanks for the math lesson but it should be noted that the single bed rooms usually sell out every year and several riders usually end up by themselves in a double bed room. There will probably be a much higher demand for the double bed rooms this year because more riders will be looking to room share to save $30 a night.

I don’t think the extra cost should be a deal breaker considering the total cost of a 3-4 day ride to Kamiah but their attitude is disappointing considering how much business we have given them during what normally would be an almost empty weekend...and I should clarify the problem is with the offsite owners, NOT the new manager.

We plan to be there. Haven't made room reservation yet. Maybe the price will come down and I can afford some exquisite $4.00 wine.

I plan to attend as well, and I share your disappointment with the rate increase. I wonder if this also puts the parking lot social in jeopardy. Let's see what happens, always look forward to Kamiah

My room is already booked. I feel sad for those that let $20 weigh in on a good time or not. Just do it.
