Probably the best weather we ever had on this ride. Let's hope it stays that way.

Just thought it would be nice to meet up with everyone before the group's split up to ride over to Kamiah.

We used to have a meet up at Starbucks on 395 and Clearwater in Kennewick at 10 AM but since we went to a 3 day format there has been little interest since most have chosen to take the long way to Kamiah and have left earlier.

In 2016 there were 2 bikes leaving at 10AM and last year there was one (me). Iím expecting 2 bikes this year.

Anyone check out the weather forecast next weekend for Kamiah? It might be the warmest weather we have ever had.

Road Construction to Kamiah

Here are some road works for possible routes to Kamiah:
  • Red Wolf Bridge (crosses the Snake River at Clarkston and bypasses both Clarkston and Lewiston), closed. You will need to go through both cities and find another gas station/rest stop.
  • Hwy 62 past Winchester. If you take the Winchester Grade, be aware that the most direct and paved route down to Kamiah has some road repaving work being done.
  • Hwy 12 about 44 miles east of Kooskia. This is beyond Kamiah and only affects those that are going further up the road to Lochsa Lodge or Lolo Pass. Bridge construction work being done. One lane traffic.

If Red Wolf is closed, I'd suggest meeting up in the Lancer Lanes parking lot in Clarkston. It's right on Bridge Street (the main drag you'll want to take anyway), big (and usually empty) enough for a group, there's a good local coffee stand, and a gas station just across the street. It's also a few blocks from Mac's Cycle if anybody needs last minute parts/etc.

Sadly, I'm still not coming. OMRRA last weekend and next, so I have to work. I think you guys need to do a trip out to PIR to watch me, Abraham and Thad race .

There is now a ground-floor room available at the Clearwater 12 Motel.

Have fun and be safe.

It's a usual construction contract. An annual project by Knife Construction includes chip seal, which has always started 2nd week July,
when road surfaces are warm enough (>80F). This won't impact ride from Kamiah to Elk City, for example.

Good info on the Clarkston Bridge - thanks.

^^^ Made it a day early up to near the Lolo Pass. Only road construction on route 12 was 55 miles upriver from Kamiah where a short bridge construction was under way; no sweat!

No gravel on any road at all.

Lions Ferry KOA Cafe will open at 11am Friday, BTW.

Anyone looking for a group to ride with can join my group leaving at 10 AM from the Starbucks parking lot on Highway 395 and Clearwater.

Ride safe! Looking forward to seeing everyone in Kamiah.

The 2018 Kamiah ride is over...at least for most of us. This was the warmest year ever with just a touch of rain for the riders who had a Saturday lunch in Elk City. The attendance was down a bit this year as several of our regulars could not make it because of other commitments but I counted at least 21 bikes, 3 riding 2-up, and 4 others who had to make the trip on 4 wheels....for a total of 28 participants. Other counts may vary.

As far as I could tell, a good time was had by all even though a few did not appear to be feeling too good on Sunday morning.

Special thanks to Pete, Chris, Dan, and Devon who provided more refreshments than the group was able to consume in only 3 days. I hope to see everyone again next year.
