Who's been to Thunderhill?

Popped my Thunderhill cherry this weekend, wow what a cool facility. Thunderhill West.

I'm sure many folks have been there before, but it seems a step above what Washington's tracks are willing to offer. Had a power outlet right there in the paddock to camp, showers, running water, garages if you wanted one to rent. It wasn't the full 5.0 track, but the smaller technical one. Got over a 100 laps.

Lots of supermotards spoiling the trackbike regulars ego's with stalking passes when least expected.

A 10 year old kid on a Honda RS 125, was schooling most of the A class.

Yup, that's what "real" racetracks are like...Washington is decidedly bush league when it comes to facilities. Heck, the Kart Club out at Tri Cites has better facilities than The Ridge.

T-Hill is one of my favorites! Great flow, and designed by Steve Crawford, the same fellow that designed The Ridge. You should try the East track sometime as well, it's awesome!

I've been there once but it was too early in riding to fully appreciate it.

Was just at T-hill 3 weeks ago. Really hard to put the bike away for the season now. You should check out Sonoma and Laguna Seca next, in that order. I know it's hard to believe, but tracks can get even better.

The Ridge is getting better - I was there racing cages last weekend and not only were the bathrooms open, but they had tp in them for at least the first half of each day!

Toilet paper is the bar now?! Dang our expectations have dropped.
Infrastructure considerations aside, I don't think we can argue that The Ridge is really a great track to ride.
Thunderhill has been one of my favorites for many years, however the Ridge may actually be better. Fewer bumps, less degradation from car racing, and....10 hrs closer to home.
Granted, the amenities may be lagging, but look at it from a business perspective, we have at best, a 6 month season, vs a 10+month season in California.
Speaking as a guy who's involved in a track day org, OPRT, and a service business, Optimum Performance Motorsports, the shorter seasons really have a great impact what we have available here.
Oct 2016 just broke the record as the wettest Oct on record...how much did you ride this month?!

I agree with Zoomie, the Ridge is a great place, and they're making progress. I guess the need/demand for a full service facillity is a bit slower up north. I read the TH handout/magazine over the past week, and it's admirable what they've accomplished over near 25 years.

There was a NASA car race going on the other 3+ mile track...U'd never know, as we were just over a little grassy roller doing our thing on the newer 2 mile track.

At lunch time 1-2pm a few race cars could be heard over the hill, but otherwise it felt like we had the place to ourselves.

A gas station, pro shop, food, garages, clubhouse, power, running water, bathrooms, were all pretty cool amenities for such a remote location.

ORP has come up in the world, too. The new showers & clean restrooms out there this summer were a much-appreciated luxury to those of us in tents!

Back to the thread, though - Thunderhill is a great facility. This Spring (end of April, maybe), several of us were down there, and the 5-mile track was on the docket. Half-hour sessions (Keigwins). I think I did about 380 track miles that weekend! Usually more like 265 with 20 minute sessions in a "standard" weekend. Pretty good bang for buck, especially hauling to & from Milwaukie for it. Hope to do Sonoma sometime this Spring.

T-Hill ROCKS! It's not as far as you think, the facility is great, the track flows. And you can stop at In & Out in Redding.

Keigwin's runs a GREAT track day. The providers here could learn a lot about how they operate: Very cool staff, none of the passive aggressive power-trips I've seen at the Ridge or Pacific from outfits like PSSR and OPRT. I've been nearly a dozen times and I've NEVER felt that they over-sold the track-day, unlike virtually every provider in the NW.

Yes, but after a long track day . . . Redding is the perfect stop, timing-wise, on our way home. We'd be ready to eat our young by the time we get to Medford.
