I wasn't there, but here is some potentially useful information in this thread. Skip to post #19.

How do you care for your leather gear?

I saw a cloud of dust in turn one, waving yellows, no bike in the mid afternoon.
Maybe the 1 or 2 oclock session in group 2. Was that you?

YUUUP . Got pushed inside . Had no line then a red Ducati dove the apex .

I tried tipping in and trailing off but my assend was just to the right of me . I had to abort tipping in and find a hole to the runoff to save the poor kid who cut me off. .

fortunately I happened to have my feathers on for such an excursion and paired with God giving me patience and quick thinking he pulled me through unscathed . A quick fist bump and we were turning laps again.

Real talk : I was at race pace and a rider hit the apex in 2 or 3 gear. What do you think would have happened if that collision would have happened. We could have both been killed .

Please pay attention during the rider meeting. I could have seen it coming sooner if I wasn't In shark
Mode but no one should dive the apex on their out lap.

I wash it with warm soapy water using leather soap from a shoe store. Then I continue wiping it until the soap is wicked away and I saturate it with leather conditioner. Since every brand is slightly different follow the directions. Be careful . Some specifically say not to use on dyed leather . I use whites leather conditioner.

Ah.
I do remember the waving yellow, w/ no debris/victims visible.

Sphincter-clencher for sure, nice work on the save!
Very glad the outcome wasn't dire, for either party concerned...

Race pace in group 2?... Sounds like fun!

Sound advice, though.

Q:
What gear should I be @ the apex?

Depends on your skill level, what you're riding and how it's geared.

"Race pace" varies greatly as skill level increases as does entry speed into T1 at the Ridge.

On the out-lap (i.e. just entering track from hot-pit) gear selection doesn't matter.
At that point, what DOES matter is staying to the OUTSIDE of T1.
Then you don't squeeze a guy like Tenacity (who's hauling ass and committed to a T1 apex line) into a potentially ugly, soon-to-be off-roading or high-speed-collision situation at the fastest part of the track!

After your out-lap, with nice warm tires, hit T1 in any cog you want.
But again, it's the fastest spot on the track, so I'd recommend a gear near the top...

In other News, Ryan @ 360Trackphotos is getting pic galleries up today!
Thanks Ryan!
