However, the conditions got better, so he had NO chance of winning that race. That soft rear tire had no chance of lasting 20 laps at that pace.

I think it's cool that he took a chance on it, made the race more interesting.

Could be a great year for Vinales.

Actually, if I remember right, Dovi changed to the soft rear as well. He even said that if he hadn't been able to get to the front and control the pace for as long as he did he wouldn't have saved the tire. And Zarco did say that he was actually slowing down to save the tires when he crashed.

Well I'll be dipped, you are right. Dovi was on a soft.

This kind of stuff is why I prefer a dry race with everyone on the same tires.

Zarco wasn't the only one slowing down, Dovi noted that the pace overall was pretty slow. Nobody was confident with grip levels and the guys on soft tires wanted them to last.

Not everyone would be in the same tires anyway. Marquez even said he wished he'd stayed with the hard instead of going to the medium. It all depends on the rider's style. Riders like Marquez like to make up time under braking and that requires a more rigid carcass. Hence his lack of confidence and overall competitiveness, relatively speaking.

It will be an awesome season, Maverick is going to be a title contender, Marquez is always in the running. Add to that Dovi, Rossi, Iaonne, Pedrosa, Crashlots and all the other up and comers, this season should be crazy. A straight dog fight to the end. Ill predict at least 8 different race winners this year.
