I am officially a motorcycle racer.

Now, to work on being a decent one . I don't think I've made a big deal of it, but after 3 years or so of doing track days and corner working, I did the NRS with OMRRA last month and I've been working on converting a Ninja 300 from street to track. Things fell into place quickly enough for me to make an appearance for the last round of the year at PIR last weekend.

I'm still kind of recovering and parsing things, but I made it through all three races upright. The Saturday ULW GP I was a DNF. I originally thought it was a mechanical, but in hindsight I think I was covering my clutch and my fingers just put enough pressure to let it slip mid-corner and cause a pair of pretty spooky moments when the power disappeared and another when it suddenly came back on. Sunday I had the ULW SS and SB - I finished both dead last, but upright. So, I met my main goal for the weekend and *technically* made the bonus goal (the SS race got red flagged before I could get lapped). Probably the coolest bit was a random visit with Jim (Late Apex) who was a huge part of getting me into track riding in the first place and just happened to be in Portland for a wedding and wandered right by my pit. How cool is that?

The great thing about a used bike is you can just blame all the issues on the previous owner!

... also, I usually run a fairly sensitive clutch so you might want to double-check and adjust it more to your liking.

Right on!

I miss Late Apex. I did have him for a track day instructor a while back.

Cheers!

Oh, and now I'm officially a *sponsored* rider. W00t! Shorai's giving me a shot with a nice discount on their magically shrunken batteries.

If you're doing the casual racing thing, I highly recommend checking out Hookit. It's like easy-mode for snagging sponsors. You can probably get bigger, better ones by making a fancy resume and doing lots of groundwork. But discounts-for-stickers still beats paying full price.
