Adventure riders?

So I'm working out a deal for a Buell Ulysses since Spokane seems suited for some offroad riding. Anyone else here now some fun places to learn the in and outs of adventure riding around here?

Mark:

I would be happy to share with you places to ride. In fact, I was thinking about hosting some local adventure rides this year, as I did a few years ago. KevinD and James1300 will be happy.

I will set up a few rides on the calendar this year. As in the past, the rides will be day rides with 70 miles street and 70 to 80 miles dirt, for a total of 140 to 160 combined miles. We can go longer if folks want to.

We will have to monitor the snow in the mountains to figure out when we can start the rides.

If you want a head start, you can swing buy a forest service office and pick up forest service vehicle use maps for the Collville, Idaho Panhandle and Kanisku. My best estimate is between those three areas, you will have about 2,000 miles of off road, suitable for an adventure bike.

Canfield. Just on the northern edge of Coeur d' Alene. Bumpy & a bit nasty, but not too bad: you can get a car up there.

backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com is my go-to source for adventure-friendly offroad rides. There isn't much available in the winter due to snow, but once summer comes you can find a ton of good areas here. Plus once you ride the BDR the first time you can branch out and explore around the routes. Also, check youtube for trailers like this:

So i finally took the Ulysses off of pavement for about a 35 minute ride. I gotta say i kinda love it. Its not very fast at all, but i've been pleasantly surprised with how nimble it is, but it was pretty stable on gravel and dirt as well. The riding position is very comfortable, i could see hopping on it and riding 8 hours pretty easy. It a lot of fun for what it is.

Already had my fill of Buell hater ass-hats though
KevinD and riceman like this.

And it'll probably be better with some more trail-oriented tires...

I'm in, and have a couple buddies in town that might be too. I'll ride anything but gnarly single track on the might v-strom...

I know several loops in North Idaho, tho I avoid single track. My bike was built to be on dirt, but Ive outfitted it with 17/19 wheels and street tires cuz that's what I use it for 95%of my riding time. Its too heavy and way to expensive for parts for crashing through and onto the dirt and rocks. I have a 650 Honda for that stuff, but crunchy joints limit that a bit, hence my pretty steady pavement/dirt road diet. I wouldn't mind meeting some new friends, AND I AM very happy to refind this group.
