Logic statements and hypotheticals are all good and fine when we all have time to dissect every scenario. We're all commenting, including myself, from the relative safety of our own little world.

Fight or flight is a real thing. Some people are hardwired to fight and some to flee.

IMO, it takes an incredible amount of fortitude to actually pull the trigger, or a lot of training to overcome the instinct not to.

i was 25 years active duty, and a cop for a few of those and the only time i ever shot at someone it was by accident, on the midwatch, with an M/79 grenade. i shot Panama, the country, from like half a mile off the beach. the sound was...pristine. Scared the SHIT outta everyone on the bridge because we were rigged for black. i was the stbd bridge wing rifle watch and i was the only one outside. playing quick draw with the launcher. i was 19. the thing went off. on its own. swear. BLAM - whoowhisssssstttllleeeeeeee....wait for it.....wait for it.....THUNKsssssss.....!

they yelled at me. hard. for a really long time. but i stayed on watch. they got me another grenade.

couldn't imagine having to point a gun at a human and shoot them. i'd do it. it think. but it would h ave to be REALLY necessary and I would run like hell first. if i could.

brave grrl.

i am sorry for the guy, his family. fuck.

She had her helmet on the whole time, so it's feasible he didn't know her gender. That being said, there are so many questions and not many answers yet. From what I read, she was pretty shook up and I can't imagine how the guy's wife is, being in their vehicle and witnessing the whole thing. No winners from confrontations like this, no matter who was in the wrong or right.

This is pretty much my point. You were/are trained and you still might hesitate. I know Marines are drilled and trained to the point that the vast majority of them do not think before pulling the trigger, it's ingrained into their psyche. They identify a threat and then neutralize said threat. She's obviously not a USMC vet, but my point is still the same. You're either programmed to fight or flee, I'm talking reptilian brain here, not higher brain.

KOMO News is reporting that the rider will not be charged. They are reporting the SUV driver boxed her in so she couldn't ride away.

Motorcycle rider who shot, killed driver on I-5 won't be charged | KOMO

TACOMA, Wash. -- A woman who shot motorist to death along Interstate 5 after the two fought on the side of the freeway will not be charged, the Pierce County Prosecutor's Office says.

The incident took place Feb. 8 in Milton, and the woman, who had been on a motorcycle, said she acted in self-defense when she shot 60-year-old Bruce Jones to death.

The Prosecutor's Office said that it could not prove that she didn't act in self-defense because of the evidence in the case.

Witnesses said Jones became upset with how the woman was riding her motorcycle on I-5. He boxed her in, and she couldn't drive away.

He got out of his vehicle and aggressively approached her on the shoulder of I-5, the Prosecutor's Office says witnesses report.

The Prosecutor's Office says Jones initiated the fight.

At one point, the woman head-butted Jones, and he drove he head into the jersey barrier before taking her to the ground.

The woman shot him in the chest when he tried to climb on top of her, the Prosecutor's Office says.

Even though it was determined she was within her rights to respond as she did, the knowledge that you ended someone else's life is a heavy responsibility. I hope she gets help dealing with it.

Agreed. There rarely are any winners in situations like this.
