Thumbs up Ride to the Races (TOR) - Saturday AND Sunday 8/27 & 8/28

Ready to be this guy?

Riding down to Pacific Raceways in Kent-burn to get a little track time on the 27th and 28th. Taste of Racing (TOR) is a 20-minute-ish track session happening around noon-ish on rain-free WMRRA race days. While the race staff breaks for lunch, the track is opened to us unruly slobs to go out and see if we have the right stuff.
Cost is $30(-ish) for TOR fee and race admission.

I’m stealing a route from Damon and riding down from Snohomish via High Bridge at 8am both mornings to arrive by 9:30 or so.
--> This will be a leisurely ride down. I don’t want to give my TOR fee to the local fuzz or pick deer out of my forks before getting a chance to ride the track. <--

Even if you don’t feel ready to run the track, come anyway. It's still kinda fun to watch the racers...

:::Snohomish Pick Up Location:::
Chevron station. KSU 8:00 am.
16315 164th St SE
Snohomish, WA 98296
Map: https://goo.gl/maps/dZ3UAphaAxv

We’ll try our best to finish the day like this:

And NOT like this:

So. Who’s in?

I have only done TOR a few times, and it's been a little while. Perhaps others can chime in here with the equipment requirements.

As far as I recall, you need to have zip-together pants and jacket, and a bike that's not heaving oil or parts.

Strange the new site doesn't have information on TOR. This is a copy from their previous website section on TOR.

====================
Taste of Racing is a way for you to experience riding in a "racing" environment without committing the time and money towards a race weekend or a track day. We are focusing this towards the ones who want to ride the track, but have not yet committed to racing or attending a track day. This will be a 20 minute controlled session on the track for $20 with experienced control riders. The hidden agenda here is to get you hooked on racing and track riding in general. General riding rules will be discussed during a riders' meeting before the Taste of Racing session.
When, Where, Time, Cost

When: Every WMRRA race weekend.
Our schedule can be found here: Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association
Where: Pacific Raceways & the Ridge Motorsports Park
Time: During lunch break.
Register at WMRRA's registration booth.
Registration opens at 9am and closes at 11am.
Cost: $20 gets you 20 mins of track time.
Please note that you will still have to pay the $8 entry fee (for motorcycles) at the front gate.

License, Gear, Bike Requirements

License requirements:

All registered riders must have a valid driver's license with motorcycle endorsement. No exceptions!
Gear requirements:

Leather or textile one or two piece suit.
Boots that cover the ankles.
Gloves
Full face helmet. Modular/flip type helmets will not be allowed.
No shoes! No jeans! Period!
Bike requirements:

Bike must be of sound mechanical condition.
No loosely secured fairings, lights, or any components on the bike that can easily fall off onto the track.
Tires must have at least 50% tire tread left.
If you need tires, we have tire vendors that can mount up new tires for you.
No visible signs of oil or coolant leaks. Anything that is remotely visible or questionable will fail tech inspection.
Both throttle and clutch must act smoothly without any interference. Throttle must return or "snap" back to the closed position without assistance.
Taping of lights will be suggested, but not necessary.

I'm thinking about doing this at least on one day. I will already be down there on Friday at 2Fast school. I watched a couple videos on youtube of TOR at Pacific and the pace looked pretty slow and really controlled.

The pace is controlled but its still fast enough to have fun. They try to keep the pace at 1:50ish but 99% of the riders there can't even do that. The faster riders hover around the 2:00 mark. If I go I'll jump in right behind the lead control rider (the rabbit) and try to push him faster. Doesn't always work but I've got them to drop the pace to 1:42ish before.

Yes, as long as its motorcycle riding gear with padding/armor in it.

Here's the official word from the president of WMRRA:

"In regards to the TOR event, we want riders to be wearing leathers, gloves and boots and of course a full face helmet. They will allow someone who has the riding Kevlar jeans if they have them."

I suspect that by "leathers" he means a riding suit. Textile included.

I'm looking forward to this weekend!

Remember, if you spend the day corner working, you get free admission, a ToR voucher, the second best seat in the house, and witty repartee if you're on the radio! Training, earplugs, stylish vest and snax provided. Extra corner workers are pretty much always welcome. Some assembly required, warranty void if exposed to helmet hair, ask your doctor if you're healthy enough to enjoy snax. Do not taunt happy fun Craig.
