Renton Tank Tracks

Any other old farts out there that used to ride their motorcycles on the old Renton Tank Tracks back in the 70's? The slab this video talks about was a challenge I never had the balls to try. I remember there being a lot of broken bike parts at the bottom of it.

At the bottom of the slab, was the oval track, in the center of the track where some hellion whoops IIRC?

Yes! We rode there a lot, the slab was awesome. Totally easy, even on bikes like Suzuki TS185s and 250s, but it took awhile to work up the nerve to try it. And it sucked if you balked and didn't make it all the way up.
And the whoops were filled with water when it rained.
Great memories 1972-1974 ish.
Thanks for finding it and posting!

And who remembers Wednesday night motos at Puyallup Raceway?
They dozed it and built a trailer park there. But one can still see part of the drag strip just off the north side of the runway at Pierce County Airport.
Saw Joel Robert, Ake Johnsen, and Roger DeCoster race the Trans Am there.
Ahh, what days we had in our youth huh? The best of times.

I remember riding in the tank tracks once or twice too back in the 80s?

How about "80 Acres" in Redmond? Now the home of some large computer company, but we used to ride there all the time in high school.

We actually called them the "Coal Hills" back in the day. Four-Corners in Maple Valley before they put the Safeway in where you use to parked your truck, Jolly Rogers anyone?

And from the Orting Crater you could ride down to the Stuck River (I think that was the river?)

Yes to Jolly Rogers. And the "Coal Hills", spent many Memorial and Labor Day weekends there. Climbing #5, and trying to climb #9.
Good times.
And riding the dunes at Mattawa? (Or Beverly)

I borrowed a friends RM 465 there for a little blip around 1982, I didn't go so well. He told me "don't crash it...it hasn't been down all day"

It started off fine, just going thru the gears in a straight line, back n forth.
Then I saw this pond over there and went to it. I didn't realize I was bisecting one of the many little tracks set up there and came to this rather large mound of dirt in 3rd gear, rolled off the throttle like an idiot as I left the ground. Nearly vertical endo, back of seat smashes into my back, bent sub frame, handlebars ripped out top triple clamp.

There were 3 pickup trucks with dudes sitting in the back taking a moto break, all laughing hysterically and pointing at me. It was humiliating. My buddy was pissed, but he only charged me $40 bucks to repair.

Many high school keg parties there as well

Only lived here in the NW for the last 40 years but can identify with the theme in this thread. Many of the places I rode and the tracks I raced are gone now too. Locally, Sidewinders was an awesome track now replaced by housing. Rider's on the AMA circuit used to do Sidewinders for fun when they were up here for the National TT at Castle Rock. And do you remember the "old" Castle Rock? The one before the Cowlitz River buried it under St Helen's ash?

Wow I rode all over all those places grew up in Kent early 70s used to turn right at the ravensdale fire station go down about 1/2 mile park and ride out to the green river tavern drink beer until just before dark then race back, usually rode 400 Suzuki or my Maicos back then usually in a jean jacket and stocking cap, made for some interesting rides back, I've had a few people say hey, I remember you guys out there, we used To go to the races at jolly Rodger sit right at the edge of the trackby the hair pin corner you would catch the roost we were so close. We're two bothers that raced Maicos pro class for Kent Kawasaki it think, they were so fast I was just mesmerized by them.
