Take all those crash videos to the local news and give them permission to use em. A nice evening exposť could force the city into action

I hate it when I see people fucking up traffic patterns to "help". Relinquishing your right of way to let someone else in is dangerous, illegal and is rightful cause for citation.

In one case, a friend was stuck in traffic, and a car pulled out of a driveway turning left, only to get pasted by oncoming traffic. When the cops arrive, they ask my friend if he waved them through. He says "No." They say "good, you would have shared fault for this accident and you would have been cited."

In another case, a family member decided to come to a stop from 40mph to let someone out of a driveway about 500 feet short of a red light. A work van did not expect this behavior and rearended her. The police determined her to be at fault, the only reason she wasn't ticketed was because the only damage and injuries were all hers.

I see that shit a lot. People stop at strange/unexpected places, placing everyone at risk, so they can have that little mental "Like" button pushed and feel good about themselves for being so polite. Fuckers.

Oh, and this - learn the rules about stopping for school busses!!!! If there's a lane between you and the bus, i.e., a center turn lane, DO NOT FUCKING STOP FFS.

Regarding stopping for a school bus and the statement made in a previous post:

I am not sure about all states, but from the 2018-2019 Oregon Driver Manual page 42:

My understanding is that in Oregon a stop is required even when there is a center turn lane (unless a median strip or barrier is present). I will entertain a correction if I am mistaken.

Link to driver manual for Oregon:

For the state of Washington I believe that the quoted text is correct. So here is a case where knowing the state laws is important. Failure to stop for a school bus in Oregon is an expensive mistake. And if you come up behind a driver stopping in Washington when they do not need to cut them a bit of slack if they have Oregon plates.

Here is the Washington law, which as stated above is different than Oregon.

RCW 46.61.370
(3) The driver of a vehicle upon a highway with three or more marked traffic lanes need not stop upon meeting a school bus which is proceeding in the opposite direction and is stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging school children.

But that's what he's saying, and I agree.

No human knows where that shit is headed, and yet some self righteous motherfuckers are going to release it on us without our consent.

I call for direct action against the AI robots - now. Fuck waiting until Tetra Vaal hits the streets.

DO NOT LAUGH. If you think that shit isn't coming within 5 years you haven't been paying attention to Boston Dynamics.

You should be scared and angry.

We now return you to your traffic thread in progress...
I would agree, alot of forces at work here, that some of the brightest minds have warned us about.
Imho Best we can do is keep informed and prepare.

Ugh... busses and funerals. Also ANYTHING with a flashing light or orange flag anywhere in the South. It's amazing that roads ever move in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, or the Carolinas for all the time cars spend stopped on the right shoulder.

I'm so tired of this. The priority is not transferable: if you have it your one choice is to take it, it's not yours to benevolently vouchsafe unto someone else.

Exceptions do exist where issues of safety or sheer impossibility obtain. This morning a box truck stopped when I had the stop sign, but the street was so narrow with cars parked on either side, he wanted to turn and couldn't until my car was out of the way. That at least made sense.

But under any ordinary circumstance if somebody has the priority and doesn't take it and makes some silly assed gesture to you, don't be tempted. Always reject it. Shake your head, mouth "NO", hit your horn...

Some weeks back a guy stopped for no reason on a not-at-all-busy main drag to let me out of a side street where I was at a stop sign. He had kids in the car and everything. I shook my head and pointed at the stop sign. He just kept grinning stupidly and gesturing for me to go... while two or three cars stacked up behind him and while, I might add, there were cars coming the other way, so I couldn't anyway.

I finally kicked it into neutral and leaned back with my arms folded and stared at him. There are enough causes for accidents without people thinking it's their role in life to renegotiate the rules of the road in each and every instance using hand gestures.

I was driving in New England a few weeks ago. I honestly found it refreshing. You always know what somebody's going to do: the most moronically impatient, aggressive and illegal thing imaginable. Really takes the guesswork out of things.
