Hurricane Ridge Ride Sunday, 7/24

Catching the 8:50 ferry from Edmonds to Hurricane Ridge, followed by lunch at the Blackberry Cafe on highway 112. Those who are game can follow me around the Crescent Lake loop before heading back east.

Don’t miss the boat; anchors aweigh at 8:50 sharp! Show up with a full tank. First fuel stop will be at lunch after 115 miles.

NB: Hurricane Ridge is in the Olympic National Park; a $20 entrance fee per motorcycle applies unless you have the national parks pass.

Just checked the fees for park entrance.
Used to be $5 for motos a few years ago.

Currently: One payment is good at all entrances for a week (7 days) if you keep your receipt.

$25 for cars
$15 for motos
$10 for bicycles

Hey, you just saved everyone five bucks! I assumed the price was the same across all national parks; it's $20 for Rainier.

$5 was a better price.

hey hey, maybe one or two Kitsap riders would meet your group at the Hood Canal Bridge? the only caveat is - traffic is gonna be murderous ....bring the UltraWideGlideBaggo.

Lessee...the 08:50 ferry gets to Kingston at 09:20, and it is 15 minutes or so to the bridge, so a bridge meetup would be at......(carry the ten, divide by zero, multiply by phi....)...09:40 plus or minus traffic/ferry stuff....

just a thought. safer in packs etc.

9:40 sounds about right. If any Kitsap riders want to join in, let me know and we'll plan on a Hood Canal stop on the way through.

My usual pick up point is at the north end of the bridge, in the parking area by Shine Rd unless someone else has a better option.

Not too illegal... I doubt we'll have much choice on the way to Hurricane with traffic. Crescent loop can be a bit more fun and the pace can be adjusted to the group; so, moderate?

Anybody know where the cops like to hang out these days? As I recall, the west end of Crescent Lake is a favorite lurking spot.

Hmmm... How wide is the shoulder?...

If it's too traffic-y out, I might skip the Crescent loop part. Nothing like being stuck behind a Prius for 90 miles of curves...

Hurricane Ridge is the most-visited site in Olympic National Park. 47% of all park visitors go there. Next most-visited are Hoh and Lake Crescent. So we are choosing the most-crowded spot in the most-crowded season (25,000 cars last July entered Hurricane Ridge). The number one "activity" cited by visitors for their visit is "scenic driving". Strangely, 61% of survey respondents said "solitude" was an important factor in their choice to visit a national park. LOL. On a Sunday? In July?

I'd rather go in July than in March... It'll be fine.

Next time maybe we'll do my "Where da Hoh at?" Route to the rain forest visitor center--a trip to the SECOND most visited place in the Cascades!
