Forest Service Road 23?

Has anyone recently ridden Forest Service Road 23 from Randle to Trout Lake and then into Oregon? There's a stretch that is gravel. No issue on a GS, but I have a street bike.

I called the rangers and the lady there said NF-23 was one of their "best" roads. (It is also mentioned as one of the most dangerous roads per the Interweb.) So I'm a bit puzzled by that description. I'm hoping someone with a motorcycle background has some info. Thanks.

I ride the southern end of 23- between Trout Lake and the intersection w the 90- frequently. There is usually some debris in the early in the season, but it is gone now. Some damage in the exposed sections, but very limited.

That section is like my own personal track. I agree that it is one of the best sections of forest road. Most of the time, I do an out-and-back from Trout Lake. Some of the view points are awesome.

You would have to come down the 25 road and then take 90 road to the 23. Problem is the 90 is a shitstorm past the Lower Falls Rec Area- potholes, gravel and overgrown. I do it every year so that I can do a loop that includes the 23, but be forewarned.

The initial portion is paved and looks like it'd be a nice break from crowded roads, and the section you describe looks good. It's that long stretch in-between that I'm not thrilled about. Potholes and washboard is not fun to ride on.

Looks like you have 7 miles of gravel from Takhlakh Lake north. Doable, but slow, leave early and you'll be fine.

Has anyone camped at Trout Lake before? I am going to ride my KLR up there and camp.

I see its first come to get a spot. Just wondering if any of you have had good luck finding a small spot to camp?
