Coming Attractions

Well, campers, I'm putting this off for at least a week.

The reasons (not that I need to explain myself to anyone ) :
  • The pass is not cooperating
  • The weather is not really ideal for mountain riding.
  • I won't have the new wheel bearings installed until Wednesday morning, and a 400 mile shakedown cruise is kinda cra-cra, even for me.

Stay tuned for further bulletins.

So, it's highly likely I'm in for this now that I'm finally back stateside. Wanted to go last year and seeing how 2017 is most likely (with any luck) my last year in the PNW, might as well go for it.

Just have to sort somethings on the bike first. Oil and coolant change to be precise. Not a big deal.

I'll check back for date and time confirmations.

Chinook Pass: SR 410 over Chinook Pass is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. Friday, June 9 providing full access to SR 410.

Take plenty of picts please. Just so us lurkers who now only ride to church (but only on bingo nights) can live vicariously through your antics.

That works for me as i was double booked if the ride was Wed the 7th. Both events are once in a life time deals for me and it would be a total dick move to bail on the other to go ride.

Since the pass is opening on the 9th and I'll be on the range that day, I'm pushing this back until the 11th. (Sunday) It being the weekend, this will absolutely not be any sort of "spirited" ride, but we should still have a great opportunity to grab some really kewl bragging shots of the bikes parked next to grunches of snow to make the bingo playing church set jealous.

I am also seriously considering bumping the departure up to 08:30 to try to get an initial jump on the motor home gangs.

As always, stay tuned to KFUZ television for continuing covfefe.

Update

Well, the weather forecast is looking less than optimal, but I still ain't taking this off the schedule yet, it just may require raingear at the ready.

Yep, the National Weather Service is talking about possible showers, which, although inconvenient, can exponentially add to the wow and brag factor of the ride.

Had be confused for a second. Weather down here looks fine for the weekend... Mt's Raininer though is showing 60% chance of rain/snow.

Talking I'm doing this.

Okay, it's on kids. The weather will not be optimal, but I got a serious jones to ride that pass.

To recap:

The Details:
•Fuel up at the Safeway gas station in Enumclaw and be rolling by 09:00 This is a hard target departure time, so if you are genetically disposed to arriving at the last minute plan on 08:40, because my side stand is coming up at 09:00 and I'm rolling.
•Stop above Tipsoo Lake for photos (Tentative)
•Stop at the turn out just over the pass for photos and plotting
•Find food and coffee and figure out how to get home
•Go home (Tentative option)

The Rules:
•Gear up for the cold and potentially adverse weather conditions. It will easily be in the 30's for part of the ride out and back, which puts the wind chill factor in the teens. Frost bite is an issue.
•This is not a race, although there may be a bit of spirited, but sane riding after leaving the viewpoint.
•Stupidity will not be tolerated. If you feel like you must ride like an idiot around me I hope that you pack a 10mm rope, your harness, and your belay device. I may consider snagging you keys and tossing them off of the nearest cliff.
•If your backside is not up to going as insanely far as I tend to do no foul, but break off from the group at one of the stopping points so we know that you're gone.

In - Unless its raining cats & dogs around 6:30ish. Probably easiest just to meet up at the Safeway in Enumclaw instead of Mullenix, (your thoughts).

That makes sense. No need to try to collect bb's in more than one place.
