oak harbor wa
Went for a ride to baker over the weekend.
Heads up for anyone going that route - the road up the mountain is covered with tar snakes , even at a slow pace the bike was slipping and shaking worse than any road I have ever ridden on. Not sure if it was caused by the heat or if the road work is just that fresh but it was pretty bad. I turned around about half way up cuz it just wasn't fun and I didn't feel like tip- toeing my way up the mountain.
However Mosquito lake road was fun and highway 9 is always fun.
Anyway just an FYI for anyone riding up to Mt Baker

I heard there were tar snakes on mt. baker and it was slippery, but I don't recall seeing it or it being a problem the past several years I've rode up there. Saturday I leave 7 am from Everett for Baker and got onto highway 9 in stanwood. I see signs warning motorcyclist of fresh oil. I see new tar snakes and yep they were slippery. I thought the same way you did and turned around and headed back home. Too bad I'm going to miss my favorite mt. road.

I rode up there about a month ago and was shocked too with all the snakes. I think the snakes ended at Glacier. I pressed on because I didn't snowboard all year up there, just wanted to see what it looked like.
The road from the highway department building onward seemed fine, if not a little beaten up and rutty. Did the Silver Lake Rd/ South Pass Rd. on the way home, always more fun than a highway.
