It's not a bad idea to remember the hand signals. Most of these apply to riding in a group but a few are useful for signaling riders coming your way, notably "slow down" (there's something you may not be ready for), and "cop ahead".

Unfortunately "road hazard" is probably not useful as it's very difficult to distinguish at speed from the standard "hey cool another motorcyclist" fingers out signal, which comes in a lot of flavors. But I've both used and received the benefit of the other two.
