220 Mile Ride Over Chinook Pass

Left Renton around noon, rode out through Maple Valley, and ran up WA 410 to Chinook Pass with the intent of going up to Sunrise. The road to the top of Sunrise was closed, but decided to take a look around and shot the shit with an old timer riding a 1985 BMW K 100 RT. Continued up 410 to Chiinook, and over the top to a couple great viewpoints. Rode back across, and took Steven's Canyon Road back toward Ashfort and Elbe. Great views. Ran back up 161 and 167 back to Renton.

At some point on Maple Valley, another rider pulled in behind me, but I lost him when I turned to go around downtown Enumclaw. He found me again when I stopped in Greenwater, and we decided to ride together the rest of the day. The roads were clean and mostly smooth, but crowded with campers and sight-seers.

You've proven once again what we have all found out; the PNW has the best riding/scenery/roads in the US. No doubt!

Thanks for the pics!!

Certainly the scale is grander, but I don't think I've seen enough to call them the best yet. It's hard to beat the deserted back roads of western PA, MD, and WV. I've taken the long way down to TN and GA too.

Unfortunately, my motorcycle trips pale compared to the total number of states I've visited.

Awesome, thanks for sharing.

I rode Chinook Pass into Mt Rainier NP a few weeks ago. There's some beautiful views along the way. Next time, I need to pull over and take some pictures and take in the beautiful scenic views.

Rides like this are what pull me towards motorcycles.

I'm excited to have the opportunity to do this kind of ride again. The hassle of getting far enough from Philly to actually enjoy a ride made it especially difficult to get out even when I was home.

That is such a great ride. Can't wait to camp there again next summer.

Now Bob,... Where's that can do attitude that you displayed when pulling green peppers out of your biscuits and gravy. We don't have to wait until next summer.

As long as FS-25 is still open: which it still is...

HWY's 123, 410, and 12 are still open: which they still are...

And,.. We are prepared to leave at first light, and maybe come back in the dark...

We can still make this run.

I was thinking about doing it two weeks ago but decided against it. If we get a couple days of nice weather I might do it.

How is the ride over the south side of Mount Rainier? Looking on a map it looks like the roads are curvyer maybe a little more fun?

If you are talking about the Stevens Canyon road that goes from SR 123 to Paradise the road is a fun road, but nothing that you should turn into your personal race track. The shoulders are fairly non existent in places and traffic can build up. The scenery is absolutely fantastic though.

Unfortunately it is closed for the season.
