Wednesday Westside pre-standing ride - 4/20/16

We're getting closer to official launch of the Wednesday standing ride. Given the forecast of another beautiful sunny day, we're on for this week (April 20). As was the case a couple of weeks ago, Christopher Slater and I will be leading the ride (I'm Bryawn on the other forums).

Here's the info:

Meet time: 5:30 p.m.
KSU: 6 p.m.
Location: Sylvan Chevron (Hwy 26 & Sylvan)
Route: Skyline, Helvetia, Rock Point, etc.
Pace: Moderate to fast, no one left behind

Depending on the route, we'll hit up a brew pub after the ride, either Roadhouse or Rock Creek. Hope you can all make it.

Is that the plan for the standing ride for the summer too?

Yes. Just trying to be honest. We want to do some longer rides in the summer that aren't possible if we don't keep at least a moderate to fast pace through the twisties. We do tend to slow down in the straights.

That said, we will certainly work to keep the group together, we always have a sweep and have experienced riders on hand to coach new riders as needed. We encourage everyone to "ride your own ride." Safety and avoiding problems with neighbors, other road users, government officials, etc. is always a paramount consideration.

Nothing is set in stone yet about the Standing Ride but Brian and I discussed not specifically advertising it as a "newb-friendly" ride in light of some things that happened last year. We hope to post specific rides that are "newb-friendly" however but doing it every week became difficult last year. We are trying to strike the right balance so everyone can be safe and have fun.

Brian is correct on the precautions that will be taken, including a pre-ride meet with all new-to-us riders, a designated sweep, and now Brian and I can communicate during the ride via intercom which worked really well a couple of weeks ago.

I am glad you both chimed in. And your explanation makes sense, especially after last year. I just wanted to get some clarity for newer riders. Thanks.

Heads up that there is a chance of showers in the evening. Freshly wet roads that were just baked for a couple days in hot weather can be slippery!

Thanks man. Right now it's looking like a nicer day than what was being forecast. Hopefully the wet stuff will hold off.
