Thinking about going and read that the north road is gravel. Write ups on south road are unclear (a recent write up says the rocky parts have been graded).

Anyone know whether a Honda CB500x (with regular road tires) can navigate the North road?

I'd do a "there and back" on that road if the south road requires rugged tires and suspension.

Thanks.

I thought that Honda CB500x was made for those kinds of roads! Although not sure about street tires. Sorry, I am no help, that's the one corner of Oregon I have yet to explore.

Stock, it was a faux adventure bike, and, when the original Scorpion Trail tires were done, I replaced them with Metzler Roadtec 01.

205 south from Burns is paved. Goes through the bird sanctuary on the north end.
Steep pitch up from French Glen, then the antelope range to where the road goes back down through the middle of the Steens to Fields and Alvord dry lake.

395 through Malheur is a nice ride.

The road north along the bottom of the Steens from Fields is gravel, but it's mostly flat and straight, so no worries.

I'd say stick to 205 for the best scenery but the gravel is there if you get a wild hair up.
