But otherwise their light weight, small size, resistance to self discharge and ability to maintain cranking amps trounce lead acid. Return the Shorai unit and get a Deltran (Battery Tender) for Li-Fe batteries for much lower price and call it good. Long cord, Alligator clips, and proven reliability. I also have the USB attachment for future use (don't leave it on to avoid parasitic drain).

The balance charger connection is a standard across all normal lithium batteries. So no, they couldn't have just changed the connections.

I went with the WPS featherweight lithium. Works with a standard charger and is about half the price of the Shorai.

Starts the RC8 with authority, have not had to put it on the charger yet.

I think those are a bit different, as they are lithium *ion* polymer, rather than lithium “iron” of the ballistic or shorai. It’ll be interesting to hear how long it lasts for you, as this chart seems to indicate it has about 1/3 the lifespan by comparison: https://goo.gl/images/LdrHxx

I missed the battery chemistry part. Probably still outlast a lead acid battery and not self discharge in the mean time.
