Shorai battery

Well i upgraded to a shorai lithium battery cause i couldnt believe
How light the battery was, then realized my trickle charger wouldnt work with it had to dump another 90 bones on a trickle charger for it since they shafted you and you got To use their charger and am very dissapointed in the charger, short cords, delicate little connections that i know wont last i guess i expected a decent piece Of equipment for for triple the cost of a regular tender. I dont recomend their setup.

On the bright side, if you ride the bike regularly, you won't really need a charger. I had one in my Bonnie for 3 years, parked outside and never had a failure to start. I do have the Shorai charger now and hook it up to my race bike the night before to ward off any potential drama.

Also, you *can* use other chargers - oddly enough, a cheap modern one is the best choice. Old ones or fancy new ones will bugger it up. You just don't want a "desulfation" or somesuch feature (fancy new), but you do need an automatic switch from full to trickle (don't use the one your grandpa charged his Edsel with). Obviously, the Shorai charger is your best bet for longevity. So far no issues with the charging cables on either bike for me.

Also, half the size and weight of AGM or lead...

(For transparency, I get a discount for slapping their stickers on my Ninjette)

Its in the track bike so its only going to be ridden 1-2 times a month during track season, the battery is hopefully good but the trickle chargers are a joke

My Shorai kicked over and started my ZX-6R last weekend after it had been sitting since October. I doubt you will need the trickle charger, honestly.

You can use a normal charger on a 2 amp setting, but you need to monitor the battery so it does not get too hot. That is straight from Shorai...had to return a bad battery 2 years ago, and that is what their customer service guy told me to try first.

A battery tender will work just fine as long as it has a Li-Fe setting.
My Battery Tender Junior 800 works fine. 35 bucks. Long cable and comes with the doo-dad with alligator clips.

I got my share of health problems going on right now, its just for 90 bucks this chargers connections would be fragile by computer standards and if i kick the cord traversing the garage one time i can tell they will be fubar

Well that's simple. Do as your mother told you hundreds of times and pick your shit up. Then you won't step on them.

Thats one of my complaints is with the short cord i got to run an extensoin cord
To it. In the directions it says built in hook to hang from haldlebars.... but the cord arnt long enough to reach from the battery To the handlebars . Im a contractor so maby
Im just fed up with china garbage where they charge 3 times what its worth and have pinched pennys to the piont it basicly doesnt work, i mean god forbid they give you 10 cents worth of wire so you have a few feet to work with. Doesnt help i got 3 bikes in my shed thats tight for 1 bike

I picked up one of these:

022-0199-DL-WH

Super long cord. Seems to be doing the job. I have used a Battery Tender Plus for years without a hickup. Just brought home a bike with a lithium battery, needed to handle that technology.

You may not actually need a tender with the lithium iron batteries, as they don’t go flat nearly as quick as lead. I use a ballistic battery (same technology), and simply start the bike to idle for 15 minutes every month or so through the off season.

So basically you bought something without understanding how it works and blame the company?

The Shorai charger is a BALANCE charger, that will balance and maintain all the individual cells of the battery. That's why it has "delicate little connections" and shorter lines. It's NOT just a regular tender, that's why it costs more and is different.

It will maintain that battery better than any standard trickle charger.

But like others have said, a shorai can sit for years on end and not lose any charge. AND it can be charged via the normal two posts if you really want and not a balance charger, but like I said, a balance charger will extend its life the most of anything. It also has a "Store" mode, which will keep the cells in the 80-90% range where they will have the best life span (keeping lithium batteries at 100% while in storage actually decreases lifespan of the cells)

I needed a battery so i bought one, no i didnt drive Back home and do a weeks research, my chargeer says it will do lithium battery but apparently no that kind, and yes i do blame the company for putting too short of cords and there
Is no reson for ultra fragile connections it would have no affect to put beefer connections and it would make a better unit. I understand lithium batterys been using them on all my tools for
Years
