Shasta & Back?

I want to go on a longer ride, potentially leaving on a Friday morning and coming back Saturday or Sunday or from Saturday to Sunday, whatever works.

What I have in mind is heading down I-5 to Mt Shasta and/or Castle Crags State Park(maybe see some Lemurians) and checking that out, possibly going on a short hike there. Continue down to Redding, CA and then head East on 299, up 101 to 199 towards Cave Junction, possibly doing a cave tour there, and then back home. Possibly skipping the Cave Junction route and just going 101 up the coast line.

Any takers?

P.S. I'll be taking my Canon and might be obsessed with photo ops slightly.

if you're gonna go to shasta: bring a druid cape and some hiking gear. go hiking in your cape and wait for the spacemen to contact you. it'll be a better story. get pix.

There are far more interesting routes to get to Lake Shasta and Redding than I-5.

Will definitely bring hiking gear (light hikers and some water), probably a piece of orgonite, and hopefully get an invitation to the Lemurians 5th dimensional city of Telos. Not sure if Canon's pick up 5D(Kirilians are SO expensive) but I will definitely try.

I figured as much, but was thinking about time to get there and more pleasure on getting back, but do tell please. Totally negotiable route after all..

You could start by looking here, but if you take a Cascadian route check that the roads will be open when you go. They should mostly be okay by now.

I'm with Marv, clocking hundreds of miles on the slab are not how I like to to start a trip. On the way home I sometimes opt for some fast-track segments, but even then I usually regret it for fatigue reasons: curvy roads keep you limber and after a long weekend or more in the saddle I need that even more to keep from stiffening up, not less.

Good call...I got some great intel from Marv, but will check that out too.

My normal commute is already getting super boring...funny how it was intimidating the first time. 3 weeks of riding and 1,614 miles logged

I'm definitely interested but not in the hiking park. I'm only in good enough shape to hike from the parking lot of Krispy Kreme to the door.

Fair enough, I won't mind not hiking and may not want to after the riding workout tbh. Dang, now I want a doughnut. We should ride this weekend or something and chat about it.

My son has a Basketball game Saturday and Sunday is mothers day so I don't think this weekend would work for me.
