Saturday morning run from Lookingglass to Coos Bay- thence north

Hey everybody,

After losing my Wife back in March I haven't felt like posting much, let alone about a ride but now the time has come. I'll be at the end of six 12 hour shifts at 0800 and I'm stand up and travelling by 0801. Since I'm not feeling another run with my Scrambler and knobs up in the TSF I'm Tiger-mounted this time which means mostly pavement and MILES.

So my plan is to jet out from Tigard here at 8 and hit the dreaded I-5 to Roseburg and thence Lookingglass where I'll take the Wagon Road to Coos Bay and back to the Metro via 101 so I can see the Sunset and come back Wilson River Highway out of Tillamook or possibly up 40whatever to Elsie and thence to 26 Sunset Highway.7

Da Google shows it as 2.5 hours from where I sit but I've ran it a few times before and three hours is a better estimate to have you at Lookingglass. Then it's just a twisty run through county roads and the forest to the beach. Only unpaved for a very small piece- I'd probably take my Daytona if it was warmer and I could hack the tiny seat that long. But a VERY big-bike friendly run- in fact due to the miles I wouldn't suggest less than a 650 as you would get tired by the beach and where's the fun in that?

Pacing should be leisurely- I don't like wildlife/motorcycle equations - especially off the beaten path. I was up solo stump-jumping with my Scrambler last weekend in the TSF and I got WAY past where reason and sanity would dictate, so since there are STILL other people depending on me down here on Earth I'm off that bike for this trip. So down the freeway it's whatever we can cook but once off the beaten track it's heads up for Elk and especially DEER (Hello Chris, How's thew new bike?).
Additionally since it is so early Ice will probably make an appearance at some point- be prepared to deal with that when and if. It won't be anywhere but in the dingle-dells on the way to the beach by the noonish hour we'll be there but knowing is half the battle. A large part of WHY I selected this route is that the COLD frozen part will be on the freeway- which gets it over with rapidly as opposed to popping up all the time as it was last weekend up by Trask where I was with the Scrambler and I'd just ride "into" it around a blind corner.

Since it IS so late-hour with NO planning I don't expect anyone to be able to tag along with but I thought I'd stick it out there anyways as there was 10 people browsing the local forum last time I looked so somebody has it almost as bad as me. It looks like it's Saturday for me for the foreseeable future so anyone that wants to do anything that day get a hold of me.

I don't have our big truck no more since that's what we were in when Mama died but I DO have eight motorcycles and I LOVE to get out on any or all of them whenever I can. I probably WON'T ever ride my Daytona on the street again as it was one of the first things I thought of after the crash- the fact that I'd be dead with NO hope of recovery if it had been the bike instead of 9500 lbs of truck- but again that's neither here nor there NOR do I intend it as criticism of any kind for those of you so inclined. The memories I have of hammering that little bike down Apiary or any of the other Marion/Linn/Benton Counties that I was known to take it to should last a lifetime and if not well I'll just buy another GASSER truck to haul it's little track-only self out there and SNEAK like you see occasionally on TV.

hey there! I see you live in Tigard...
In case you want to join, some of us are riding Saturday, a couple hundred miles rain or shine.

Meeting in Tigard at BMW of Western Oregon between 8:30-9:30.

If you have a BMW of course that's nice, but they let me tag along on my Honda

That's because you meet the nicest people on a Honda.
