Ride to Sisters

I'm riding 2 up to Sisters via old Mckenzie pass Saturday. Meet at the Boring gas station near Barton park at 9:45 and leave at 10:00. We'll get gas in Detroit and then on to Sisters for lunch. Return route is negotiable. Pace will be 2 up Spyder pace. Slow for sport bikes but faster than slow riders. I still get impatient behind slow cars or bikes so there will be some passing. But a Spyder can only do so much. Anybody is welcome to join us.

Dagnabit! I don't know how I missed this. Already did Old McKenzie Pass twice this summer, but would have still enjoyed doing it again.

Lena, when we rode it Saturday the 22nd, the road was just fine all the way up to the observatory. The road had recently been swept clear (no gravel in any of the corners). We turned around and headed for the Aufderheide, so I can't comment on the conditions East of the observatory.

The pass was very clear. Gravel on only 2 corners. Light traffic to. It took us a little longer to get to Sisters than i thought it would. We arrived at 2pm. The only problem was some kind of small organized cycling event. As you know there is not enough room to pass a cyclist safely. This made me very frustrated. I have pedaled many miles and always avoided roads like that. Also along the way the butterflies were out in mass. I've never seen so many. It was quite a show!

took a ride to Detroit today...a bunch of sharp rocks across the road in one place...one place were the road looks like it slid away and has a barrier around it narrowing the lane down...not bad on the way up..but coming back the there's a gravel dirt patch of on the down side taking up about 60% of the inside corner to the right there...if someone was coming up you might have to leave the pavement there...check it on the way up and be ready for it coming back...some pot holes going down to Detroit after the big turn in a couple of spots...other than that great as always...

That spot where the road fell away has Been there since it opened this year. It's just past the Ripple brook ranger station. Those pot hole close to Detroit are there every year. I don't remember a time they were filled. But I am a youngster.
