I know guys that ride them, rather than just look at them! Granted, they may be in the minority of Duc owners...

Meh. You can paint and put decals on anything... This is not real. Can't be. No way.

Maybe Maupin is the Sturgis of Ducati owners...

I knew I had to capture the moment. Two of these are most beautiful, pampered garage queens that have been customized to perfection. Notice the open belts? Or the perfect custom paint job? Lovely bikes. Maupin is the farthest they have ever made it from Portland. But they did! The other two are more traveled. Hmm, in all my travels I can count on fingers of one hand encounters with other Ducatis. Why? In my experience they are perfectly capable. Does it have to be a big adventure bike? Or a Harley?

I rode a 999 for a half hour on Skyline Drive. It felt lke my old Maico motocrosser but without a padded saddle. (Buzzy, precise, and unforgiving.) And every time I’d hit the brakes I’d slide forward for a nutcheck on an unpadded steel tank.

No way would I take that to Central Oregon. I hope he wore a cup.

i'm half an inch from buying a Duc. It would be my first. Seems like every lifetime rider should have at least one Italian motorcycle. Maybe it'll be a lesson. Maybe it'll surprise me and just run for a long, happy life.

My first bike was Italian, hence my screen name. Have not had another after 80+ motorcycles owned but would consider one. I heard a Ducati while at a yard sale a few years ago and looked to see a surprising Ducati powered hard tail chopper! I am pretty sure my mouth hung open for a few seconds!

Bumped into a Dad n' Lad duo at the Tastee Treet in Prineville; Dad was on a glossy new Duc, son on an old Gixxer. While chatting with Pops I turn to the kid and say "that looks like a hoot to ride", and he looks at the ground and says oh it's just an old bike. His Ducship doesn't say anything, I say something like "hey, you rode it here, didn't you? The only important distinction is between being a motorcyclist and not being one."

Meanwhile Dad gets back to yapping about his accessories and as they fire up to leave he's going on about his open clutch cover. I'm looking and listening to it with a puzzled expression wondering wordlessly why getting rain and road dirt in there is a good thing. He gets mad and rides off without saying anything more, taking his son by surprise. Kid needs a better dad. Judging by how clean the Ducati was they were probably local or from Bend at most.
