Portland to Detroit Lake Today: August 30, 2020

I did the run from Portland to Detroit Lake along the Clackamas today for the first time in a few years. It was excellent.

The road seems improved from the pothole filled times, with just some dips in the pavement frequently.

There were more campers along the road than I have ever seen previously. Perhaps due to covid.

Detroit Lake was bustling. The gas station/store by the marina was very busy, with new enthusiastic and welcoming owners.

A very excellent day. I just did not see nearly as many motorycles as I used to. There was one group of sportbikers at Ripplebrook, and I passed two smaller groups of cruisers and adventure bikers. Otherwise, just a dozen or so individual riders, and one scooter with a long line of fuming cars behind it.

Dude.. i woulda went with y'all, but i'm working. you know, an actual job that i have to leave the house for. I don't have the luxury of "working from home" . Easy people, don't get all butthurt, i'm just kidding. sheesh. I'm guessing the reason you dint see too many riders out is that 1) they're at work, 2), that road is congested and dangerous, see Skyline Blvd, and 3), last time I was out that way (April of this year), I must've seen 10 cops during my out and back loop. South and west is the way to go. As in Hwy 20 through Corvallis to either Waldport or Newport/Depot Bay. Maybe go thru Wren, up to Siletz, nice roads out there, just watch out for animals. You wanna go down that way this Sunday, get at me, I have a hall pass Good day to get away from the heat..

Just my take, I could be wrong.

I let the R1 sit too long and got gunked-up carbs. I had EDR clean them and it is running pretty well again.

I sold my FZ1, because I really didn’t enjoy riding it as much as the R1, even though it was newer and had low mileage.

I am looking out for a good deal on a newer R1. Or maybe a Street Triple.

Yep. I heard everything is on fire in Oregon. You can’t even drive/ride anywhere.

This situation is becoming absurd. The pandemic makes us all quarantine inside and our only opportunity to recreate is to go into the great outdoors while keeping our distance from each other.

Now, the wildfires are chasing us all inside and we can't go outside for air quality reasons and public lands being shut down.

What’s next, orders to hide under the covers?
