Polar Bear Run Jan 1, 2017

Polar Bear Run - Home

Anyone ever do this New Years Day run? I just registered.

From the link:
The Polar Bear Run is an annual event held on New Year’s Day. The event is sponsored by the Trinity Road Riders and is open to the general public and to all motorcyclists. 2017 will mark the 33rd running of the Polar Bear Run.

The Polar Bear Run is a self-guided ride for individual riders or groups. The ride begins at Cycle Gear in SE Portland and ends at Jimmy O’s Pizzeria in Oregon City. Each year, the road captains of Trinity Road Riders design unique ride routes. You can choose to ride 1 of 3 rides.

1) Cycle Gear to Jimmy O's
2) 60 mile ride
3) 110 mile ride

All info at link above. Not sure which of the two long rides I'll take...we'll see what the weather is doing.

If they'd provide digital versions of the routes (link to Google Maps version of the route, GPX/TPX/etc. files...), I'd consider doing it again. As I have no tank bag and don't find stopping every turn to read a piece of paper particularly enjoyable, I doubt I'll go again. When I did it two years ago, I spent more time on the side of the road confirming I had taken the correct turns and figuring out where the next one was than actually enjoying the ride...

Agree...I've searching for route info to avoid what you describe. I plan to arrive at CG and get the details. Then, program in the main points/towns. How I get there and eventually onto Oregon City will be of little concern for me.

Very much looking forward to this! It's always a fun day. I'm hoping for no ice this year

Oh my - found the 2012 thread from the first one of these I went on - when I met MrMat25 & Pink and even more people <3

Yup! Some of us have been doing it for several years, most of the time we don't follow the route, just make our own and meet at the end for lunch. Thanks for posting this, I usually do every year but was MIA.

If I was able I would definitely be doing this. Make it up as you go. Nobody cares what route you took. It really just about going for a ride.

Hmmm, at this point, snow showers and near-freezing temp.

I'm seeing conflicting reports depending on what website I use - NWS shows a chance of snow for Sunday, weather.com shows partly cloudy... Regardless, it's gonna be friggin cold - I rode to work this morning and my fingers were hurting like hell by the time I got off the bike (about 20 minutes of highway riding)... time to re-invest in heated grips since my last ones crapped out earlier this year.

I'm still watching the weather with fingers crossed!

Last year we planned KSU for 11am...Our group usually gathers at the east side of the Cycle Gear parking lot, by 90th Ave so it's easier to find each other in the crowd.

Any Westsiders who want to ride in together? Let's meet at Ava's around 9:30 and plan to leave there at 10:00 to head to Cycle Gear. I will post up here by 9:00 am if I decide to bail
