One Moto Show - February 9-11, 2018

This show doesn't need any advertising but I thought I'd post anyway. This is the first year there are entry tickets and they have been sold out for the last couple of weeks. You can still get tickets at the door but if the lines are anything like the last few years, get ready for a long wait.

The One Moto Show

There are several events going on around this one, I don't have all the details but I hear there is a ride from Ava on Saturday, a ride from the Guzzi dealer also on Saturday morning, a meetup at a Dancin' Bare on Interstate on Friday, starting at 4 pm. If anyone had more info, feel free to post up.

  Here

Bump. Starts tonight at 6:00pm.

I didn't remember until I stopped in at Two Stroke Coffee in St Johns and they mentioned it over my perfectly served cortado. Passed by the Pickle Factory a half hour ago and cruised through the many little parking lots; excitement abounds.

Parking is a cluster, like last year. Even moto. Show very similar to last year but getting more commercial. Still good. So far ...

It is a good show and I am glad that I got in. That said, I agree with all your comments Lena (and thanks for the photos). Parking was/is a nightmare and if you parked on the north side of Columbia Blvd like I did, crossing the road on foot was risky business. The venue was big enough that when I got there about 1030 this morning, there was a line to get in but the wait was minimal and it didn't seem like the building would be metered for people in/people out like a couple of years ago. It was crowded but everyone was courteous. As usual, the spectator bike parking was every bit as interesting as the show.

Happily surprised to see my riding buddy Ums there. Also met a guy who had a vintage motocrosser on display and we talked about how to get your bike in the show. Saw Logan's business cards (PDX Speed Shop) but not him. Thank you Harley-Davidson, See See Motorcycles and all the other sponsors for this event.

Some photos to follow.

A couple of Speedway bikes. I think the yellow one was in the 1 Moto show that was in the shadow of the Fremont Bridge. If I recall correctly, that was the first or second year of the show. Nice venue then but a lot smaller.

Back when God's dog was a puppy, I raced Bultacos in flat track and motocross. One of my friends raced her little 125 Bultaco TSS at Sears Point. Here is a modern treatment of frame, suspension, and tires with a vintage Bultaco engine. That ain't no Amal carb neither.

In-line 4 cylinder Yamaha TZ750 in a Champion frame. Scherwma built the frame for the bike that Kenny Roberts raced on the San Jose Mile. Rick Hocking (RIP) was the test rider for Yamaha at the time and helped to develop that monster. This street tracker looks a whole lot more sane but I'd be willing to be it is still quite a handful. Beautiful.

That TZ 750... Wow. I have long wondered what opening that up on dirt would be like.

Thanks for the pics, Lena and Jeff.

Yeah, I saw that Yamaha TZ and wondered who would be insane enough to ride that. There was also a very slightly modified Ducati Scrambler flat track that apparently was beating the pants off other bikes in Salem last year. Jeff, we missed each other again, dammit!

There was one room full of almost solely Yamahas - I think Yamaha gives the bikes to some creative types and maybe gets an idea or two from it, and if not, it's good PR strategy.

Thanks for the video Vaun. That Yamaha was a handful on the dirt for sure. I saw it run the San Jose Mile in 1975 and he didn't do as well. He won the Indy Mile with it that year but the story goes that it was Harley that beat themselves. Jay Springsteen and Corky Keener were battling for the lead through much of the race. Roberts took advantage of their rubbin' and bumpin' and passed them both coming out of the last turn on the last lap to win a narrow victory.

Those were the days. In order to win the AMA #1 plate, the rider had to compete in short track, TT, road racing, mile and half-mile. Not so genre specific as today. You had to be good at everything.

OK. Enough nostalgia. We now return you to your regular broadcast. Anybody else have feedback on The 1 Moto Show?
