Post New bills for 2016-17 Session

It's that time again. I will be working with Oregon's BikePAC on motorcycle bills in the upcoming 2016-17 Legislative Session in Salem. We are looking to build on last session's success, and I am working on a new lane splitting bill and a driver accountability bill for reckless drivers who take out motorcycles. However, BikePAC is also working on other issues, including ethanol in fuel, profiling, and gear choice. Make your voice heard by voting on BikePAC's site so they know what is important to YOU!

Done. Looks like splitting is most important to people by a decent margin.

I have known a few riders who have been hit by cars and I was rear ended once but I never realized accountability was an issue. Hell, those of us who ride every day dodge cars all the time including the occasional deliberate swerve. If you hit someone or run them off the road its your fault right?
Is this something you are seeing in your law practice? I just assumed fault would be relatively easy to determine.

Thanks for posting this and for representing rider's interests. I have the same question as Zebra. Is there some degree of legal difficulty in determining fault when accident reports are in evidence? Are the people representing motorcyclists suggesting that collisions or single vehicle crashes are being handled differently for motorcycles vs other types of vehicles?

Insurance companies are in business to make money for their stockholders. They will ALWAYS try to shift blame to the "other" guy if they can get away with it. If they cannot then they will do their best to minimize payouts and then turn around and screw their former client. Money is always the bottom line. Justice has little to do with the arguments between the insurance companies.

How would the proposed legislative changes alter this dance?

Interesting to see how many different opinions there are on whether people should have a choice of wearing gear or not.

Lane splitting is really the only one I care about, with driver accountability being next. Traffic is becoming such a shit show in Portland that nothing else really matters.

Yeah, I was surprised at that. Personally, I'll wear what I feel comfortable in, and I don't give a hoot what anyone else wears.

Not sure why so many people feel so strongly about butting in on others' business... if someone wants to ride in a bikini and flip flops, good for them. Ain't my jam, but I ain't trying to cramp anyone's style.
