Lane Splitting Bill!

It has been introduced in the Senate, pretty much the same as last time I think. Limited to highways with a speed limit of 50+ and when traffic is doing 10-.

https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/201...verview/SB0385

The House has a bill which would allow travel on the shoulder, not between lanes, but the speed limits are higher:

This. Soooo much this.

"I WANT SOMETHING AND YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO READ MY MIND, LEGISLATURE!!!" -Entitled Morons

They have another great quote, too. Something about "voting doesn't work", or some such nonsense.
If you can't be bothered to put in the effort to make something work and it doesn't work, the problem isn't with the process you didn't use...it's you. Send an email, make a phone call, visit in person...do something, or don't bitch.

And of all of the methods, the personal visit for an informed conversation is the most powerful. Just the fact that someone takes a day off from work, ie uses vacation or goes without a day's pay, speaks volumes.

Why is civility so rare nowadays? There's no reason to respond like this.

Let's keep this thread open so that more people can contribute and spread the word. If everyone sends a formal letter to their representstives, we'll have a good chance at this. More often than not, I get a response from them.

All right, let's try to keep things civil, discuss issues, and not resort to name calling.

After all, this is not Congress.

Emailed Dembrow and got this back:

"Thank you for reaching out about S.B. 385. This issue has come through our office before and the senator was supportive of the past, and will likely be supportive this session as well. "

Hard to blame a voting person (or non voting, for that matter), for not having faith in our elected officials. They seem very adept at nodding at you, showing concern for said issue, saying all the things the concerned voter has to say....then bam..if one bothers to look at said elected officials' voting record, one might get a shock as to how said elected official actually voted (or not), on said issue.

I get it that we need active, civil discourse in order to make change, but I also get that waiting for change is a slow and arduous process. In the meantime, riders die because of inaction from said elected officials. I wholeheartedly support those that give of their time and efforts to support causes that some of us can't/won't get actively involved in. I support with donations and whatever else I can...don't hate on the guy who's tired of waiting (no pun intended), and just says, "screw it, i'm takin the shoulder and/or splitting"...we're all in this together, directly or indirectly. Just my two cents...feel free to light me up as I'm sure some will...rubber side down.

I'm not going to light you up (counter productive as heck ), I'll just ask if you have actually engaged your elected in actual discourse. I feel your pain about the process being slower than a unionized glacier, but the only real tools we have is how we engage with the folks that, right or wrong, write the laws.

In the spirit of transparency, I must admit I have not. I do not feel represented by any elected official. I vote for whom I think would be the least dangerous legislator, for the most part. I just don't think it does any good. What can I say? I am very distrustful of just about all said officials. I think they don't care or listen to the wants of the few, let alone the many. They're just gonna do what they wanna do, regardless of what those who elected them want them to do, so I just follow their lead: I do what I want. I am very careful not to draw attention to myself, and if the need arises, I "lane share", use the shoulder or whatever a narrow, quick, agile two wheeler with a capable rider can do. I am very aware of my surroundings (tho I know I can't predict behavior successfully 100% of the time, I'm pretty good at it), check for LEO's constantly, watch for the cell phone wielding cager, I just go about my business. I'm not really concerned what anybody thinks. I'm just tryin to get to where I need to go without too much drama in a decent amount of time. Soory for the run-on rant, it is what it is. I have good intentions I think, I've meant to hook up with Caslaw on more than one occasion to lend my voice in Salem, but work or kids or just a ride with a buddy usually comes up that takes precedence. Guilty as charged. Carry on

  bikes, all kinds.
I have actually written letters and met with my legislators in person. Granted it wasn't on motorcycle related issues, but nevertheless I tried to make my voice heard and influence their voting. From these experiences I share craiger's feelings and disenfranchisement . Unfortunately, the truth is the constituents these people supposedly represent are not very high on their priority list. First comes the party, then political donors, then some other groups that align with party's agenda, and at the bottom of the list the rest of the constituents.

I have great respect for folks like Texasl, Tod701 and Caslaw. These people are true superstars for relentlessly lobbying for what they believe in despite what I described above.

Thanx for the backup...it's really unfortunate that this is what happens when able bodied voters like tunus and I are relegated to the sidelines. I'm sure that's exactly what the policy makers and the lobbyists want..apathetic people who just shrug their shoulders and say, "screw it, ima go ridin instead". We two wheelers are in such a minority, that our voice won't be heard, drowned out by the PERS haters and partisan bickering. Oh well...I'm gonna enjoy my internal combustion 2 wheeler whilst I still can and the fuel is cheap. I realize what is happening to get me that cheap fuel, but what can I do? I pedaled to work for 10 years, all i got was hazed..the conservatives of this country don't care about the environment, and are gonna frack, drill, run pipelines and the like till there aint a drop left, all the water is poisoned and the national parks and monuments are ground to dust. But at least I got to ride...heavy sigh..
