Enforceability? Are you kidding me? I RARELY see LEO's on freeways now as it is. This is a CONTROL issue, not an enforce-ability issue. I'm pretty sure most LEO's know that it's a good idea and it works and it's safe, the Idiots In Charge (aka policymakers, lawmakers, whatever), are the one's that are scared. That's right, I said it; they're SCARED. Scared of their own shadow. Scared that someone might move to the front of the line ahead of them. Scared that someone might have the freedom to move better, quicker, faster, safer than themselves. This is all about control. Pussies.

I see asshole cagers on their phones CONSTANTLY, like 6 out of every 10 drivers, I don't see them "enforcing" that.. what a bunch of bullshit. Hypocrites galore.

Yes, HB2314 effectively "died in committee" this year.

Even though the bill was unsuccessful, the effort riders put into it was exceptional, and much appreciated. I personally have been working on lane sharing bills for ~six years now, and I've never seen such support down in Salem. Many legislators told us "my constituents really support this!"; your emails and phone calls helped make that happen. THANK YOU!

We're organizing a Town Hall meeting in Portland mid-June, to let folks know what happened this year, and how we can build on this year's work. It'll also be a chance to ask questions. As soon as we nail down the time, day, and location details, I'll post them up here (as well as laneshareoregon.com).

Thanks for driving this and spreading the news. Sadly it died, but it seems like there is a little more traction with this each year. We'll just have to make even more of an effort next year.

print that damn picture out, laminate it, and carry it with you in 8.5x11 format. filter to the front. when The Man yanks your chain, show it to him. then take your ticket.

everyone's gotta choose.

Happens all the time. Rear end collisions account for 28% of all accidents. Be ready to split lanes in a hurry and watch your mirrors.

Well, I can certainly see the compelling evidence AGAINST filtering. Shit, we're all just a bunch of law-breakin, patch wearin, daughter screwin hooligans and outlaws, right? What year is this again? It's gettin to be an old argument already. Every cager I talk to about splitting is dead set against it. I ask why, and I don't get an intelligent response; quite the opposite. More often than not, it's a blank stare, like "are you kidding me, it's so unsafe", as if said dumbshit cager cares about "our" safety. They don't know why they don't like it, they just don't.

Because it's a rat race and they want to win. They don't care how dangerous it is.

I've printed copies of the editorial "Lean Angle" from September 2018, Motorcycle News (MCN.com) by David Hilgendorf. He pretty much sums up the pros (more) and cons (not so much) of Lane Sharing, includes links to relevant studies and reports. I keep a couple copies with me and hand them out whenever needed, cager, legislator etc. It puts in their hand the arguments for Sharing and usually gives me a starting point for conversation on the subject.

Cagers are against it because they think it's unfair, that's the bottom line. Most of them won't admit it, if they even realize it. They'll hide behind the dangerous argument because "jealous" is an ugly word.

See where Texas is considering Lane Sharing bills, HB1270 & SB273. 20 mph top speed no than 5 mph faster than surrounding vehicles, limited access highways only.

They don't want to win, since there's no real win in traffic, they just don't want YOU to "get away with something" (that they're not getting away with).

FULL motherfucking STOP.

Oh they want to win. That's why safe drivers are constantly getting cut off. Damn rat race to save 1 min. For what, more time to bs with coworkers. Even if you win the rate race, you are still a rat.

Can you clarify this? If a LEO catches you splitting, what kind of ticket do they issue?

Bummed to see the bill died again this year. Traffic is horrific and after traveling the world again this year for work, it's preposterous how everyone else on the globe filters yet we sit here in stopped traffic with tons of room between cars.

All for doing things the right way, this has been in talks for 6 years. We have some many Californians in state now, I'm frankly shocked that I don't see more bikes splitting. If everyone just started splitting, it'd be impossible to enforce.

I'm gradually starting to see a few people splitting. It's only going to increase, Portland City Council's head is firmly up their ass and traffic isn't going to get any better.

Im starting to see it more too. Probably because it's warm and were all seeing more bikes in general. Lets look for lane splitters in February.

Followed a bike splitting on Saturday and on Sunday too.

Split (or shared) a lil today on the way to work.

Im starting to notice (when you put your bike close to the dotted line) about 30% of the vehicles moving over to let you by. This is great! Must be the Cali folks But you still get the one or two cars that is just not gonna have it. You'll see these idiots hug the dotted line thinking thats going to stop you.

My roomie, who rides and wasn't really for lane splitting, finally sat down and read through the MIT report which has some great data. He actually told me yesterday that he now feels splitting is in fact safer for the motorcyclist after reading it. Finally! Now if I could just get the rest of Oregon to read this or something similar, we might make a lil progress.
