Fun Route from Portland to Corvallis?

Anybody have any suggestions for a fun route to take from the East side of Portland to Corvallis? I'd like to keep it between 2 and 3 hours each way.

For a start, the Wilsonville to Newberg route is good, at least for something that close-in. There'll be a few cars. Alternatively, Scholl's Ferry (210) to the Hillsboro highway (219) gets pretty good in places and has a nice hairpin at the top. Either way you get to Newberg.

From there most of the routes due south are mostly straight and fairly boring; so I would head to Dallas, and from there take the Kings Valley Highway (223), which is pretty fun, to Wren and Philomath. It's the slab to Corvallis from there but it's not bad.

Alternatively you could stick closer to the river, but I don't know of any really great routes until you start getting close to Salem, other people might have some ideas. Then make your way to the Corvallis Rd; which parallels 99w to the east and is quieter and prettier.

Edit: oh, you said starting on the East side; sorry. Coming from that direction I usually go Oregon City down 99E (kind of dull and Aurora is a speed trap) and eventually cross the freeway near Woodburn and cross the river on the Wheatland ferry. See above for the rest. There may be some nice roads on the East side south of Silverton if you want to go that way, perhaps someone else can fill that in.
no splat matt and chadams66 like this.

pushing 3 hours, and depending on the snow melt. 224 out estacada take it all the way to Detroit lake,

pick up 22 west towards I5, then 226 into lebanon, and slab the last bit to Corvallis.

I've not been on 226 in quite a while, so I don't know how it is holding up.

FS-46 still closed. Typically doesn't open until June and we had a lot of snow this year.

I agree with trying to get the Wheatland ferry in your itinerary. Fun thing to do. In fact, if you are allowing all that time, you could probably add the Canby ferry too.

Come to think of it, Looks like the Wheatland ferry and the Buena Vista ferry (which on second thought I'd recommend first to anyone heading toward Corvallis from the East) are both closed right now, Wheatland because of flooding. You can check them here. It was the last time I went that way a few months ago; signs on the main road warned of it but I decided to go that last couple of miles to take a look. The level was dropping and floodwater was draining out of the Willamette Mission State Park in a broad sheet. It was pretty impressive, I think I shot some video.

Well that is good to know that Buena Vista is closed. I was planning to head up that way this Wednesday.

I can get you from Salem to Corvallis. These are two of my favorite ways to get to Salem:

BUENA VISTA

INDEPENDENCE

Looks like there are some good roads northwest salem that might be worth hitting
