Friday Coastal run from Tigard

Hey all,

So since all the planets have aligned properly, my bike's back from her 36k and I'm salty I've got to get out. Haven't been on a ride since watching Northern California literally catch on fire behind me as I rode down to Highway 1 late last year.

As I don't like too much traffic I'm leaving really early Friday morning and seeing how much frost is on 219 from here to Newberg at about 6:30 or 7:00. From there I dunno, maybe take a run down to Champoeg first to check out the speedo, make sure its' still accurate if you get my meaning, wouldn't want to disturb any LE on a fine Friday morning. Afterwards I'll head to the coast with the idea of lunch in Pacific City or somewhere thereabouts with Northerly or Southerly coastal route home to follow as needed/desired and/or weather permitting. Current forecast is for temps in the 50s and overcast, but I wouldn't be surprised to see rain OR Sun especially on the beach.

I'm an old guy on a bagged up Tiger 800 so pace will NOT be a problem, but on the other hand I don't stop a lot so as to cover a lot of miles. I generally take a good bit of kit with me so as to remain comfortable and such and among that lot is an air pump and a thermos of hot coffee as well as a Rotopax full of gas. Won't probably get much off-roading done due to snow but I "might" pop up a forestry road or two for giggles.

No takers, huh?

Ah well see lots of 101 tomorrow. Looks great for dawn at Champoeg, then South to 34 and over to the beach. Alsea summit not projected to freeze overnight bodes well and I’ll be about midway by lunch time, right where I need to be. Plenty of trouble to get into on a Tiger anywhere near the Tillamook basin, just gotta watch the altitude when solo on gravel.

Would love to join you, but this work thing - to pay for bikes that sit in the garage - gets in the way.

Post up again and if you alright with weekend work, I'll try and join ya.

Thanx guys.

I did indeed stay warm thanks to heated gear. Had more problems with rain and the abysmal little screen on my Wife’s roadie Tiger. My Son was giving it it’s first water workout and was NOT having a grand time of it. Rode all the way down to Dallas and out King’s Valley but the weather was too much and we tucked tail and turned around at Ritner covered bridge due to darned near solid water. I was even starting to leak at the seams of my Yukon and normally that takes HOURS.

So the point of posting is this: Redux.

I still haven’t decided WHAT kind of ride it will be tomorrow, but it looks to be fair weather so I “might” break out the Daytona. Problem with that is I’m old and decrepit and I don’t want no rock chips so I’d be stuck in the Valley ripping from burg to burg on a SuperSport that I still haven’t got quite to grips with as opposed to my Tiger which I’d cheerfully take to Hell and back. Also on the Daytona I tend to have to carry the stuff as opposed to the Tiger where I can pretty much bring it all in the panniers or tank bag. Additionally the Tiger is at least navigable when the pavement is frosty and icy whereas the Daytona would probably put me on my butt and make me cry at the sight of ruined Scorched Yellow fairings and tank.

So if anyone is going to be riding tomorrow down here in Orygun, hit me up. I’m probably going to leave at Cow-milking time (0500) from here in Tig-town down 99 to Dallas and out King’s Valley to the beach, then I’ll just follow my nose if no one else is along. North passes look whack right now but then again, the south cams are out now on 36 so we’ll see at the time. I “might” try to extend and go see the slide down Brookings way, but that’s hella far off and won’t see return until late night.....not good with the Mrs. and me riding solo with the temps down.....we’ll see. Open invite, though. Catch me anywhere along the ride and join in if ya want, I’ll buy you a beer or beverage of your choice.

I'm off tomorrow and I'd love to join you but I'm having a pellet stove installed tomorrow so no go for me.

Well it’s damned near 21:30 and I’m off to bed.

Anyone wants in catch me sometime before 0430 on here and we’ll hook up.......otherwise we’ll see ya out on the roads. Probably going to go down 99W and hook through Adair Village to Novak’s in downtown Albany for breakfast by 07:30. If you can make it I highly recommend the place, they have many heavy European style breakfasts that will keep you upright in the saddle all day. (If they don’t cause unconsciousness!)

Stay warm and and stay safe, everyone!
