Even if it is "better than a Harley", (and what isn't?), it is still BUTT UGLY! Of course, that is only my incredibly unbiased, and yet expert, answer. YMMV.

Even though BMW is known for making quiet engines, I'm still surprised at how easy going it sounds in that video. First mod by most 'merican owners will be to cut that huge exhaust straight off!

"Before we'll agree to allow you to shoot a review of your cruiser motorcycle on the grounds of our English country estate, we'll need a deposit of 1000 against the cost of cleaning up oil leaks from our gravelled drives."

"It's not a Harley, it's a BMW."

"Ah, never mind: deposit waived."

It's curious to me that they went with a pushrod engine, given that all the boxers on their current production line were OHC at this point.

I almost didn't click on that link, thinking it would be someone grinding the pegs to dust on the R18.

Nicely done.

As far as the R18 goes, I dig the exposed drive shaft.

I'm surprised that BMW would try for the share of a market that's, IMHO, fading, unless it's the european segment they're after (read tariffs).

Perhaps using up leftover parts?
With the Beemers computer controlled suspension, traction control, lean angle control, power windshield n whatever has about as much appeal as my microwave. And what I'm told of maintenance issues, and cost of, on these new generation bikes by guys that have been riding and maintaining their bikes for decades is appalling. Yeah, Harley is on it's way out and so is the rest of any thing with a piston that jumps up n down, it'll all be electric in 20 yrs anyway. With manufacturers having to meet EU5 standards MC makers having to add more computers and VVT etc to the product prices are beyond the reach for many. ICE motorcycles will cease to exist as an affordable mode of transport

Umm... my Honda would dump either one of those over priced pieces of shit any day of the week. I don't even wanna KNOW the price tag for either one. All I know is that I paid $6500 for my Honda that has been/will be bullet proof, fast, reliable, convenient, comfortable...screw it. I aint tryin to sell one, and none a y'all give a shit anyway. They can keep Trump alive, but they can't make a sexy, do-it-all bike for the masses under $15K? What a bunch of BS. Ya know why he's still alive? He don't drink, and he don't smoke. Quick, someone get that guy a whiskey and a cig, he'd be dead in a week...

What a joke.

Wouldn't touch it.

That other Cruiser they built, the R1200 was kinda cool, but never really caught on...

Maybe they're just being vultures circling around the dying HD...

Wish BMW would just stick to what they know instead of trying to be everything to everybody...

I would think that the R18 is exactly "what they know" and are known for..boxer engines...this one is just larger than normal...

Let me re-phrase that.

BMW tries to portray themselves as offering Advanced Technology in their Cars and Motorcycles. Advanced suspension, ABS brakes, materials, design and build quality.

Lately, it seems they've been hitting the 'Heritage' button much like HD, Indian, etc. So I find it confusing, and I think it muddies their message when they come up with a bike like this. Plus, the Japanese have already been there, done that many times over with excellent results.

So they are just trying to leverage their reputation and put out a product that somebody might buy. Even though it seems like the current crop of motorcycle buyers isn't looking at Cruisers at all. Now if they were to release an updated version of the R69S, I might take a look at it, but their are way too many other options in the Cruiser market for me to ever buy one of these.
