Pot bellied Ray Liotta being confronted by an emaciated Peter Fonda...nothing says desperation like that. Fuckin Hollywood...fuckin greedy capitalist assholes who ran HD into the ground. They deserve what they get. If the new CEO can salvage that lame ass manufacturer, i'd be shocked as hell. Hypocrisy at it's most unapologetic. Whine to the gubment that "stronger than suspected" competition is stealing their untapped buyers, leverage your future for immediate gains and then wonder where/how/why it all went wrong. Who are these people? At least they sacked that Levatich. Just seems like a cascade of short sighted decisions with nothing more than immediate results deemed more important than long term goals. I personally would never purchase a Harley-D, but I doubt HD cares. It's not like they do any research/development. Same old, same old.

Well, that was fun to watch. Nothing like 50's tech that the 'hardcore' will not let them change, not that they much wanted to anyway. They truly backed themselves into a corner while growing fat off of the status quo. Now they are in trouble.
The auto industry almost did that in the 50's with the Euro cars coming in with disc brakes and improvements and them standing still but they reluctantly improved because they had to or become a laughingstock.

Not difficult to "steal" a buyer from HD. They keep rolling out overweight, overpriced and underperforming motorcycles. HD blew it when they dumped Buell. I believe the bikes would have continued to evolve and kept a share of the sport market coming through the doors. They have a habit of making stupid decisions and that's unlikely to end anytime soon.

Harley's in the same stew as many elder american brands past and present. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they hang in there, but walking into a dealer these days is so cliche and boring. Nope, nope, nope, nope, out the door! I stopped into an east side dealer for their Livewire reveal. The manager couldn't stop talking about how fast it was, so when I had the chance I asked if HD had plans to race in any electric series like MotoE, TT Zero or even take a stab at pikes peak. He didn't have a clue about any of that! I guess he meant pretty fast around the parking lot.... Maybe if I was a much bigger dude, a Road Glide or Electra Glide would be on the list of comfortable touring bikes. I've owned a couple, restored a couple and hope they start designing motorcycles on the workbench, not in boardrooms.

This seems to be true. Whenever I hear compliments around new Harley motorcycles e.g. "It is so fast now" or "it handles great" or "it is lighter", they always seems to compare to old Harley Davidson bikes instead of other motorcycles. They need to get out of their bubble and compete with the entire motorcycling community, not just themselves.

They'll probably get bought out by an Indian firm just like Norton or that other Brit brand.

About eight-ten years ago I was seeing a lot of young tech sector types in my peer group buying Forty-Eights and the like. But they've all gone to Triumph and Ducati now, and they're not coming back. Those guys have figured out that the way you do retro is with modern quality and vintage look: not the other fucking way around the way HD's got it.

I believe Harley Davidson's biggest blunder in the last 20 years was not purchasing Ducati when it was offered to them.

Ducati is a subsidiary of Lamborghini owned by Audi which is owned by the Volkswagen Group. Harley had most of the cash and could have easily raised whatever they needed to get the deal done.

On the other hand, it was probably best for Ducati and its brand to not be purchased.

Feb 5, 2019, I predicted, in another thread here:

" . . . HD's electric model's sales with last about 18 months, then they'll fall back to their comfortable schtick. You can bank on that."

Can the LiveWire make it another 3 months?

I don't think anyone, anywhere, is saying "I'm buying an Audi because that's what everyone in the Marvel Comics Universe drives." And they're sure as hell not buying Harleys because in three or four of the films a character rides one -- or a mock-up of a nonexistent one with unconvincing sound effects -- for 30 seconds and then promptly either lowsides it or throws it at a tank.

You know, it always amazes me that so many people piss on H-D. It's a motorcycle. Why should you really give a damn about its weight, saddlebags, chrome or whatever? I was under the impression that this is a motorcycle forum. If you frown upon Harleys and drive a Camaro, do you also frown on Ford's? Do you drive a RAM truck and diss Toyotas? Are scooters and mopeds below your station? Geez people; just enjoy two wheels. If Harley-Davidson goes out of business then we are all poorer for the loss.
