I love the "square box, round pizza, triangle slice" metaphor. Awesome and sums it up for me. I've ridden stoned plenty of times. Usually at night under a full moon with some very cool smooth jazz caressing my ear drums.... ah the good ol days. No traffic, warm summer evenings.. the only real issue i'll confess to having was animals. Always a major concern when riding in my neck of the woods, but riding whilst baked, I am particularly concerned with animals. Back to the lecture at hand.. After reading the motorcyclist article, and noticing that different amounts affect different people differently, I gotta say that my intake is pretty small compared to most that I know. I've been on group rides meself and have witnessed riders inhale quite a bit, but seemed to be fine (I watched them closely whilst riding, and giving said riders a wide berth). And I never over-indulge. But that's purely subjective, is it not? Moderation is key for me.. be safe out there, it's a dangerous world. And remember, adult actions have adult consequences.

I've ridden behind a truck whose occupants were smoking weed. They were not exemplary driving and I was not comfortable being on the road with them...
It's pretty hard to report it whilst riding on a motorcycle.

I have only had one verified sighting of a dude riding high. that dude was not impaired in the least. i watched him smoke some weed at the base of the mountain and then get on his very fast bike and haul ass up the mountain ahead of me. i am a really good rider and I couldn't keep up. not even a little. i also remember that when he got to the top (of Windy Ridge) he pulled out some beef teriyaki with rice from his tank bag (still hot, in the white foam takeout shell) and ate it right there, with chopsticks.

i don't know about impairment and people's assumptions about it.

the mechanisms of action of cannabis and alcohol are totally different, and almost opposite.

alcohol is "inTOXICating". it is literal poison and the effects of it, the drunkenness, is literally the symptom of being poisoned. it is a serious impairment of mental and physical function because when you drink alcohol you are drinking poison, and it diminishes all capacity, rational and motor skills included (perhaps especially), as a function of the poisons attack on those systems. this is why alcohol has a lethal dose.

with cannabis what you experience is an increase in mental activity rather than a decrease or disturbance. cannabis is not intoxicating because it is not a poison. FMRI of the brains of "high" people look a lot like FMRI scans of buddhist monks in meditation states (only with the stoners it is less stable. it swings all over the place. with the monks it is wicked stable. those guys are doing some real, physical stuff with their practice).

there is no LD50 for THC or its cousins because it is not a poison. or rather, we know it is not a poison because there is no LD50.

so the issue of impairment of the two things is apples and moon rocks. they do not compare at all except in the Wally World of the law.

that said, it is obvious that high people are affected because they act all high. that is real shit. but - i've watched people do yoga high, and i can say that not everyone is unbalanced or otherwise diminished in their capacity for bodily coordination and control.

you can't do some of those asanas if you don't have very, very good control of your mind and body.

but most people aren't advanced yogis.

still, go to the skate park and watch some of the stoner kids do double and triple kick flips all day and smoking or vaping in between.

still, there is SOMETHING that is obviously off about people who are high and we just feel like they should not be driving. but a lot of that is media driven i think. we think of Jeff Spicolli or Cheech Marin or Jeff "Little" Lebowski.

i think this isn't as obvious as everyone says.

just my free opinion though, NDIH. (No Dog In Hunt).

Chya, I tend to agree with my man Sentinel.. I used to play basketball with my work homies back when I was a younger man. There was one dude who would blatantly smoke weed before and after playing, and I'm tellin ya, he was often the best player on the court. Now, in contrast, if he didn't have any or whatever, he was the worst player on the court. My uncle who taught me to play tennis, he would smoke before playing any chance he got. And he was an eye-of-the-tiger player. Strange how different people react differently to the ganja. It certainly would be beneficial for all if the gubment did an actual, real scientific study(ies) on the effects of said ganja. But with the Wally World of Johnny Law, I'm not confident it'll happen in my lifetime. Get a glove and get in the game, gubment. Let's go!!

for over 12 years I was really into white water kayaking...two big blunts on the way to the river and two more on the way home...class 4+ to flood stage river running...I can only remember one time stopping and pulling out a bowl on the far I have yet to smoke and ride...I crash enough without doing it...maybe if I did I wouldn't...haha

In my youth I raced in a number of different motorsports both high and straight. Not ‘blottowed’, but more ‘buzzed’. I won’t say it helped me but I am not sure it worked against me either. I know with my stick (‘H’ pattern) shift drag car my times were consistant either way. I also know when I played hand or racketball, or tennis, I was bad enough it did not matter...
