Randle to Carsen

I am just now new to PNW Moto. Am planning a ride Enumclaw to Packwood to Randle and to Carsen. This spring the roads were closed. Have they opened yet do you know and if so what are the conditions?

Yes, the roads are open, but conditions are TERRIBLE with potholes and unmarked depressions in the roadway that'll throw you up off your seat. Once you get past the intersection with NF-99 that goes up to Windy Ridge, the road does improve. We used to make that run several times a year, but the roads have degraded so much, it's not only not enjoyable, it's dangerous.

Even worse is the road that carries you from Northwoods down to Trout Lake, (if you were considering making that excursion). The road to Trout Lake has so many potholes, and they're so large, it's sometimes nearly impossible to avoid the second one after avoiding the first one, and this is at 20 or 30 mph. We rode to Trout Lake about a month ago, so this assessment is current.

I grew up down there.

Just did cougar to randle and back last weekend.

That road has always been bumpy as fuck, they fix a section, and then another section gives out, I'd not been down for many years, but it seemed about like the same bumps they've always had... the shadows can play tricks, and the bumps are hard to see, so go at a medium pace if your not familiar with the roads.

That said, its one of my favorite rides, 78 miles of 35mph corners +/- Don't forget to do windy ridge (there are a couple short gravel sections maybe 10 yards or so) I had a new set of dunlops I needed to scrub in, mission accomplished.

On the way back we swung by the farge lakehouse for some grub.

  Here

From what I recall it's much better SB than NB, because the damage is from subsidence, mostly on the downslope, i.e. east or northbound side of the road. Haven't ridden it since last year but going north I found it useful to just ride on the wrong side of the road on stretches where it's completely safe to do so.
