Go take your MSF course. It is required to get your license and they will instruct you how to ride for two days on their bikes.

Hi there. I am on the Oregon coast with a fairly large bike so not a good location for you nor a good "practice bike".

Consider watching Craigslist for an inexpensive small used bike. When I decided to venture into riding after a really long absence I found a used Honda 250 on craigslist with under 1000 miles. Owner had some balance problems and found that riding was not going to work so bike sat in garage for a while gathering dust. I paid a little under $2K. Rode it for 1000 miles, decided I liked riding so sold it for what it cost me and bought a new larger bike. Rode that for a few years and moved up in size once more.

If you shop around you should be able to find a good, small, used bike that you can re-sell for close to what you paid depending on your patience and deal making. As summer comes to a close you might get something now and come out ahead when we come into next summer. It should not be hard to be near break even at least.

Have you considered starting out in a smaller bike? Maybe something like : this

Seriously though, go take the team oregon class or other msf and start to research what you want to get out of riding a motorcycle. The last thing you want to do is practice on an unknown country road..

Sign up for a Team Oregon course. You'll have to anyway to get your endorsement in Oregon. You'll ride bikes for two days and even if you decide not to pursue getting a motorcycle you've learned a new skill that aspects of transfer to daily driving.

Am I the only one who wishes there was a "laugh" emoji on the forums?

Who in their right minds would let a non experienced stranger let them test ride their own ride? I could see if they were friends but dood...you posted on a forum with random people...

Sounds like a craigslist scam...

And I vouch for all the peeps who said to go take the MSF course. I had to do just that in order to "test" out a motorcycle. Of course I had already "bought" a motorcycle by that time but didn't ride it until after the course.

I totally agree with Ashfoot. My jaw dropped when I first read it. I then thought this HAS to be some kind of joke.
