Brand new to riding

Hey Everyone -
Brand new to motorcycling here. I got my license last summer, bought a used little Honda CBR 250, took it out and ended up stalling it about 10 times in a 4-way intersection while drivers on all sides were staring at me. So embarrassing....
I stopped riding it the rest of the summer and it just sat in my garage.
I pulled it out today, forced myself back out there and it was so great! I don't have any family or friends who ride motorcycles and I am really looking to meet some people to ride with and develop my skills. I have a lot of improving to do.
Anyway, hit me up if you are interested in riding in Portland with a total newbie. Thanks! Amber

I feel your pain!

Welcome to the fold! I think most of us have been in you boots at that intersection. Wait until you drop your bike while at a stop! Been there, done that. I'm a big fan of parking lot practice drills to hone your clutching, braking, counter steering skills. Keep a look out for "new rider" rides, but stay away from group rides until you've got quite a few hundred/thousands of miles in the saddle.

That's the spirit! Get back out there and keep trying. A little more practice in the friction zone and stalls will be a thing of the past.

Hi there... welcome! Good for you for getting back out there! Yeah... don't let a couple of mishaps stop you. You will thank yourself for keeping on. I started out on a Honda CBR 250 and loved that thing. It was so much fun to ride. The more hours you spend on the bike, the more comfortable you will be. Ride, ride, ride... every chance you get. :-)

Welcome. Everyone started as a new rider. Find an empty school parking lot and practice - both starting and going straight as well as starting and making a turn while staying in your lane. After a while smoothly using the clutch becomes something done by memory. Give it time, don't worry about the learning curve just have fun and stay safe. -- Dale

We've all had those moments, even more experienced riders have stalled the bike in an intersection or three so nothing to feel bad about!

Wait until you drop the bike in your driveway while just sitting on it. Talk about mortification...

Anyhow, riders are a friendly bunch of people that will tease you about things like that but will also rally around you when help is needed, even if you don't ask for it. I've learned over the years that it's not so much a community as a large family.
