Why isn't there a kickstand on both sides?

I was putting my bike on the pit stand and I started thinking about what would happen if i dropped it away from the kickstand and whether I had enough weight/leverage to catch or stop it if it fell away from me while I was rolling it out of the garage or something.
On the kickstand side I leave it deployed while I roll my bike so it will catch it if i fuck up.
But on the other side - see-ya. If it goes i cant stop it.
I know - stand on that side.
I do that - whenever I think of it. The thing is, that there is a kickstand sort of forces you to stand on that side, or at least to mount/dismount on that side.
So it's still a monkey show.

So - why aren't there two kickstands?

My Vincent Black Shadow's OEM front stand had legs that could be deployed to either side, or could be used in tandem to lift the front wheel off the ground. And it had a rear stand for the rear wheel. Of the bikes I've had, that is one I should have kept.

My Dad had a Vincent Rapide (a 54, I think). Those Vincents were beautiful machines. He sold it in 66 or 67 to a guy who drove a thousand miles from south Texas to pick it up, and I remember that day clearly...it was one of just a few times that I ever saw Dad get teary-eyed.

Binary standage....what a concept! I like the design of some really old machines that had a built in 'paddock' stand that could be ridden off of and then flipped up to form the rear fender of sorts. But I will wait til we have levitating ones like on SW or The Island...

First we would have to bring back the concept of rear fenders.

I believe dual kick stands are called a center stand.

Why don't you just weld one on the right side? Couldn't be that tough...

The side-stands on the Vincent were far forward. They deployed outward as side-stands. They deployed downward and then over top-dead-center vertically to raise and support the front wheel.

Because anyone who mounts a horse, bull, camel, llama, ostrich, elephant, tauntaun or motorcycle from the right should be drawn & quartered.
