WA SB 5623 (Lane Splitting) is dead

Unfortunately this is what people envision when they hear about lane splitting laws.

Thanks for the update - we all knew this was the inevitable conclusion of this bill - but it is important to get the word out due to the tremendous amount of misinformation being circulated.

you know, i don't remember anyone doing a survey of what I think of allowing cellphones in cars. just saying - why do we have to give a shit what anyone thinks of the matter?

i know - cellphones while driving is illegal. yeah, and so no one texts while they are driving, or makes calls with the phone cleverly down low (or for that matter, right the fuck up in the window where everyone can see because, fuck you, I live in Gig Harbor).

do it any way. your bike goes almost 200mph and can fit through a gap as wide as a door. ;^)

I have been wanting to with all the heat but i just know some cop will call it negligent driving and impound my bike to be a dick. i heard a psa about the wsp targeting bikers.

i also heard one for "dont catch and drive. catching them all is fun but getting into an accident isnt." or something like that. but that is for another thread....

The Chairwoman of the House Transportation Comittee, Judy Clibborn, refused to bring a hearing forward for SB5623 this morning.

Please call her at (360) 786-7926 and voice how disappointed you are with her refusing to bring forward a bill passed by the Senate, and ignoring a recommendation from her own party member and bill writer, Senator Tim Sheldon.
If everyone in this thread calls and explains their displeasure I bet she'll hear.

Nope.

Now is the perfect time to enact some change in her position. She is up for re-election this year. Time for all you folks who live in the 41st District (Mercer Island, Bellevue, Newcastle, Sammamish, Renton, Newport Hills, Lakemont, etc.) to vote with your throttle hand and kick her butt out.

It's dead all right, just ask the expert in the field, Mr Caslaw. I am certain he knows the "ins and outs" of the bureaucracy better than most, and the "leaders" refuse to do just that, lead. Lead by example, lead by common sense. I bet they are all so "afraid" that a person on two wheels will get to their destination faster than they, so out of spite, they deny common sense legislation. What's a voter/rider to do? Vote with your wallet as well as with your ballot. If more people rode, were perhaps, you know, educated, perhaps progress would be made. Too much fear and ignorance for any real progress.

IMHO, people LIKE sitting in traffic. They LIKE spending hours upon hours in their cages. It justifies the exorbitant price(s) paid for their vehicles, they can surf the net with the "wi/fi hot spot" that is their vehicle, update their redundant facebook status, sit in air conditioned luxury, compare their little penises against the next guy with the shiny-ness of their new car/truck and look so cool. Yeah, sign me up. Not. Sheeple suck.

Hearing and caring are two different things.

That said, I fully support everyone contacting her.

It's a whole lot more than just casting a ballot or making a donation.
  • It's actually engaging with the candidates right now, when they are running for election.
  • It's putting an actual face on the issue, in the form of an educated, articulate citizen discussing the ins and out of the issue.
  • It's developing a respectful and collegial relationship with the people who are going to be making the laws under which we have to operate.
  • It's becoming the trusted resident expert to the candidate (and hopefully the representative) on the issues facing motorcyclists, the "go to" person when those issues arise.
  • It's discovering a well rounded, well versed on multiple issues candidate, then rolling up your sleeves and getting involved in the campaign and helping them get elected.

Yes, people, it's hard work, but it can pay off.

Yes we can... ride!

Let's make lane-splitting great again!

I'm with Larry!

Crossing the Narrows Bridge to the 21st Century!

Can't remember anymore jingoistic political phrases to bastardize for my own purposes at the moment, but I'm sure George Washington would have approved of lane-splitting if his Arabian kept getting stuck behind wagons chilling in the left lane while toting gravel across New England.

These metaphors are getting a bit tortured.

Just recently my wife and I went to visit her family in CT and Long Island. While we were driving on long island, we got stuck in stop and go traffic. Sitting in traffic, numerous motorcycles kept going by lane splitting. I was like....What...........NY has legalized lane splitting?..........That's cool. My sister in law said, nope they haven't, but everybody just does it.

No one was giving a rip with them cruizing by at a sane speed, while we were going no where.

Hmmmm..............
