That's fine, if those people don't want lane splitting, she can vote no. Unilaterally killing the bill flies in the face of what our government was built for.

You would think that those living on the Rock, who need to hit I-90 to get anywhere, and the good people of Bellevue, who run I-405 to get where they need to be, would be the first in line to allow something like this.

Of course that assumes that those folks have an ounce of common sense....

...well crap, there goes that thought.

Most of these folks have never heard of this bill.

We can try changing that.

Do we have a source on this?? Everything I can find online points to it still being alive, though moving painfully slow.

I am not super familiar with the Wash. legislative process but here is the current status of the bill according to them: SB 5623 - 2015-16

I don't see anything that points to it being dead yet and can't find any reporting saying otherwise. If this truly is dead, I'm sure there are some media sources and motorcycle rights groups that would like to know.

I sent some emails off to my Reps. anyways..

Damn, that's what I figured but hoped it wasn't so. Sad to see the lack of information provided regarding its status. Hell, the most recent thing I could find on it was an urge from the AMA to contact your rep in support of the bill on the 25th (a day after it was officially dead).

So much for an informed electorate, can't wait for our rights' next chance to get denied...

Is there any way to collect info and stats on how many M/C accidents were caused by cage drivers rear ending M/C?
I have been hit twice in 50 years from the rear while stopped at an intersection. 1st was a good bump that dented the fender and the last was a solid hit that knocked my R100Rs out from under me crushing the left luggage case and exhaust.
Since a majority of my time was spent on CA freeways, I was able to split traffic and never got tagged.

We will have to prove it's safer to win.

Last year a friend of mine got rear-ended over in Beaverton. He decided to quit riding street and went back to dirt bikes. Unfortunately, his injuries are still causing him problems and he's decided that he can't ride dirt anymore either.

Elections are coming and elections have consequences. Don't blindly vote for someone just because they have a certain letter after their name like 90% of the brainwashed voters do. Do your due diligence and be an intelligent voter. If I had it my way, those politicians that consistently deny and restrict your rights (all of them) will be gone first. Also, a constant majority of one political party certainly leads to entrenchment, corruption and other abuses of power which are bad for your regardless of what your political inclination is. Vote with your head and not with what the media is telling you.

As someone who is new to the area, who might be the politicians who are for our lane-splitting rights? Is there anyone local who is adamantly for our cause or do we vote out the ones stonewalling it and just hope the alternatives are different?

Senator Tim Sheldon and Representative Cary Condotta are a good starting point for a list.

Thanks Tod,

I'll look in to their politics when I get a chance. I'll definitely get more involved/informed once we get settled in from our move...

Stay safe out there guys and watch your six! ( was going to post a youtube vid of someone getting rear ended here but there are soo many, I'll just let you guys search for them)

I have personally emailed my reps, and was rebuffed by one Mark Mullet. I wrote back respectfully trying to encourage an educated dialogue about why he perceives filtering to be more unsafe for motorcycles than being stuck at the tail of a traffic jam vulnerable to the distracted masses. He offered no explanation or response. He will not be getting my vote this election cycle.

Feel free to share experiences you have had with reps that do or do not deserve the motorcycling community's votes...
