Two unfortunate firsts in one day

Ridiculous. First, my phone fell off of my RAM mount while accelerating onto the freeway (US 26, Jackson School Road eastbound ramp). Couldn't stop by the time the ramp ended, so I went to the next exit (Brookwood Parkway), turned around, and came back. Walked up and down the ramp a couple times but couldn't find it. Said fuck it and decided I'd use my computer to track it at home.

Get home, use Android's device manager to track it, sure enough it's on the side of the ramp further down than I had walked. Waited a couple hours for traffic to die down before heading back out there.

On my way back out, I had my jacket open a bit to catch some air since it's hot out. On the off ramp at Jackson School Road, a fucking bee slams into my neck and leaves its stinger in.

I've broken my femur in half, broken a rib, punctured a lung, broken ankles and fingers and wrists more times than I care to count, been stung by multiple wasps at once, accrued massive amounts of road rash from skateboarding, etc. etc... I'm pretty good with pain.

Not one of my previous injuries was as debilitating as this god damn bee to my neck was. It was all I could do to fight the pain and pull over to see what the hell had hit me - looking in my bike's mirror, sure enough, there's something stuck in my neck. I thought it was a pebble at first but after pulling it out it was clearly a 7-8mm long stinger.

Bee was nowhere to be found. I hope you're happy, you stupid fucking bee.

So that was my day.

Hornet flew down my suit right as I hit the straight at TRMP a couple years back. Stung me 8 times in the chest as I made my way around, trying to smash it through my leathers. Little bastard was dead by the time I got off track, but the damage was already done

I've taken one right in the jugular too. Felt the initial hit on the freeway & thought it was a rock the same as you. Pulled over on the shoulder & scrambled to tear off my gloves and helmet, then fumbled around for a credit card to dig the little bastard out. Fun stuff!

Did you find your phone??

Knock on wood, I have yet to have a bee encounter. I'm glad that is all that happened to you. Your thread title had me worried for a sec.

Had a pheasant fly up out of a ditch near Palouse and hit me in the face while my shield was up. Didn't crash but gave me a nose bleed and scared a year off me,, I went back and got him and ate that sumbitch the next night for supper... REVENGE!

Curious how that happened. Been using mine for about a month now and its as solid as a rock even with all my shenanigans. Also, how did the phone do?

Take your bee story, eliminate the part about the phone, On Ramps and the stinger length and change it to center of upper lip, can you say Homer Simpson?

Bees die after stinging if that makes ya feel any better.

@Burphel yeah I know but I wanted to end its life on my own terms...

@Pigs the phone faired OK - some cracks in the screen but my case saved it from the worst. One of the rubber doohickeys had slid off quite a bit and I think the combination of that, full throttle first gear acceleration, and the fairly strong winds today ripped it right out of the mount.

I'm sure he would have preferred that it died hitting his visor, and leaving bug guts to block his view...

I hate it when that happens..

Took what I think was a bumble bee to the exposed part of my neck once and 60mph or so. Got to see him coming in, of course. No stinging but had to pull off to catch my breath. Had a golf ball sized welt that took three weeks to fully go away.

Maybe you have the "wrong" mount for your phone... I used the one RAM recommended for my Samsung Note3 and it fell out. I used the next size down from that (after an internet query) and it's so tight it held during my highside and i had to have someone go get it off the bike to call for help!

Good thing you got it back!

Well, I have modified the mount slightly by adding a wireless charger to it. This means the phone doesn't quite rest where it normally would in the mount. However, it lasted about 7-8K miles before this happened, so I'm chalking it up to that rubber piece sliding up a bit, the conditions, and the wireless charger being in the way.

Never had a problem with the same exact mount on my DR650 (no charger attached), and that gets ridden on way rougher terrain than my Street Triple...

I use one of these to make sure the phone stays put, cheap insurance!
