TRIUMPH GOES DOWN at Bonneville!

(GUY MARTIN WASN'T INJURED).
Triumph didn't even get off the line but "crashed" before getting a crack at the 300mph speed they needed to pass before they could attempt for the actual record.
It sounded like it was slow speed but requires a full inspection due to being scratched down the fuselage.

Still a lot faster than me. They'll be back next year, I'm sure. Hopefully the salt will be in better shape, although I'm hearing on other forums that it's been getting worse for years now.

Yup there was a lot of talk about the salt being pretty rough a couple weeks before at BMST. High powered vehicles were churning up rooster tails, and the salt was coming up in big chunks that were tearing up chutes. Apparently it rained after that and did not really dry out enough before the Shootout - which was the event the Triumph ran at. A couple people set records in spite of the rough conditions, but there were some scary moments too. Danny Thompson had a blowout at 400+. Luckily he was on four wheels rather than two and pulled off a righteous save.

According to some the problem is that somehow a layer of mud has collected about an inch under the salt surface. Under that the salt is still thick. There are other venues - the North American Eagle is running at the Alvord desert this week looking for 800mph, and they say conditions there are excellent. One helluva lot more dusty, though.

We were there a couple weeks ago for World of Speed event, it is an amazing place! It is hard to describe, but here are a few pics:

Supercharged Bonneville with dual Amals and nitrous!

It rained overnight and they cancelled the last day because it turned to a lake.
