He still had a lot of throttle applied. Right to rev limiter when it crossed into the gravel.

Seems experience played a role in this one.

Tensing up on the grips and forgetting to countersteer when a curve gets scary has been the downfall of many an inexperienced rider.

He could have easily made that turn. But good on him for showing us all what not to do. The picture of the rider + bike shadow on the trees after flying off the cliff...

Okay, he's accelerating on the approach, up to 68mph in 3rd gear. Then he backs off a lot, a couple seconds later he's down to 40mph, no longer in much of a lean, and get this: his RPMs are way up. Clearly his clutch is in and he's whole-handing the brake and throttle because he's in an inexperienced panic brake mode. A moment later he's upright and takes a straight line over the edge.

So yeah, I'm thinking he suddenly realized he wanted to shave off some speed before the curve but used the brake+clutch to do it instead of just backing off, and once he was squeezing those levers he was in driveway steering mode instead of countersteer, and couldn't understand why he wasn't turning.

I saw a claim on FB that the steering locked. Not sure whether he said that or not, but highly unlikely. It was the fault of inexperience, and not much else. I've seen too many riders do the exact same thing (without going off a cliff).

lmao how does the steering lock on a motorcycle(other than parking with the key)? That's not even a thing
